Basketball Season is underway!
Basketball Flys With Ducks
8th Grade A
Last night, the Lago Vista Eighth Grade A basketball team played the Taylor Ducks in the first game of the season. Although a hard-fought first game, the Vikings did not come out victorious in the first game of the season. The leading scorer was Cole Sisemore. Leading defensive players were Devon Parsons and Steven Schwerdt. It was a group effort, and I think we learned a lot from playing our first opponent of the season. If we bring the intensity and the toughness that we showed at the end of the game, I believe the Vikings can hang with anyone throughout the regular season. Next week, we have a week off because of Thanksgiving and following that will have our first away game against Marble Falls. Go Vikes!
7th Grade A
The Vikings hosted the Taylor Ducks Thursday night for the first game of the season. Taylor took an early lead but Lago Vista was able to keep it close and were down by 5 at halftime thanks to some first half 3 pointers by Zaire Arar and Brody Norris. Thanks to a great defensive effort by everyone and some great rebounding by Levi Castro and Kaden Hodd, the Vikings were able to get within two in the last few minutes and tie it up with 1 minute left. The Vikings, down 2, were able to get a stop in the waning seconds and called a timeout with 11 seconds left and a chance to tie it up but the Ducks defense stood strong and held us off to get the victory. Final score was 30-28 Taylor. Leading scorer was Ayden Chaffin with 11 points. Next up is Marble Falls following Thanksgiving break.
7th Grade B
Our LVMS 7th grade B team basketball squad had its first game of the season against Taylor Middle School last Thursday night at home. Despite a limited number of practices, following the recent end of the football season, the Vikings took the court against the Ducks and started wearing them down. The Vikings were up 12-2 at the half and finished the game defeating the Ducks 20-8. Our defensive player of the week is Luke Reynolds, and our offensive leader of the week is Gavin Warner, with 6 points on the night.
8th Grade B
Our LVMS 8th grade B team basketball squad had its first game of the season against Taylor Middle School last Thursday night at home. Despite a limited number of practices, following the recent end of the football season, the Vikings took the court against the Ducks. The Ducks were a formidable team and definitely had their skills more refined. The Vikings started the game in a deficit after the first quarter, but rallied back a little in the second. The Vikings continued to improve in the following quarters, but ended up falling to the Ducks 21-51 at the buzzer. Ou defensive player of this week’s game is Thomas Ramsey and our offensive player of the game is Dylan Humke, with 6 points on the night.
Lady Vikings Tangle With The Ducks
7th B vs Taylor
The Lady Vikings played a good game last night against Taylor. They ended up winning the game 26-1. Peyton Christensen and Liana Stevens played a great leading role of point guard setting the offense up for their team. Stella Maxwell, Lauren Carpenter, and Molly Cortez had some great steals from the other team to turn over the ball and give their team an opportunity to score. Aaliah McArthur and Shelby Rosprim played great defense against the other team to cause the Taylor Ducks to turn over the ball. Madison Hawes and Sienna McGuire led the team in rebounds to assist, putting more point ups for the Lady Vikings. Stella Granger led the team in points and played hard keeping her team in front. Arian Yorek hustled and helped her team with their big win. These ladies played hard and I was proud to help and watch them have a big game. If you get a chance, come watch these girls in action.
7th A vs Taylor
The 7th grade A team came away with their first win this week against Taylor Ducks. Things are starting to come together and we look more and more like a team each week. Lilah Culbreth and Lila Rodriguez led the team in points. They both dominated on offense and defense. Leya Sund played incredible defense last night and turned the ball over several times to give the Lady Vikings back the ball. Te’A Turner was also a huge help on the defensive end and had some assists to help her team. Shi Krishnamurthy brought the ball up for her team and set up the offense to push points on the board. She drove many times to the basket to get a couple on the board. Kinsley Boyd came into the game with flash speed taking the ball from the Taylor Ducks and powering down the court to add to her team's win. Aislin Munoz and Rain Nelson both assisted in getting good passes to their team in order for them to score. They also both played very well on defense. Elayna Prescott and Annabelle Weaver came up with some big rebounds to add to their teams victory. The Lady Vikings played a much better game this week. We moved the ball more and made better choices on offense. We’re still working and improving everyday. These ladies have grit and character that will take them far in sports. Sometimes this game can get a little testy but we showed how we can withdraw from the negativity and still come up on top. We have a tournament in Thrall this weekend and then we will be back home after break. Come and support these ladies and watch them grow in the game.
8th B against Taylor
Lady Vikings fought hard against the Lady Ducks last night in their loss 17-23. They are coming together as a team and have improved so much from last week. Kennedy Brown and Elle Head did a great job bringing the ball down the court to set up our offense. Top scorers on the night were Hannah Koenning, Sofia Garcia, Elle Head, and Aleah Whorton. The Lady Vikings were strong in their drive to the basket which caught the Lady Ducks in foul trouble. We went fifty percent from the free throw line with Helen Munoz, Melany Cardenas, and Hannah Koenning adding points. Our 4th quarter push had us out scoring our opponent. Helen Munoz and Elle Head were aggressive and led the Lady Vikings in steals. Valerie Marin contributed to our defensive effort while Ava Bailey and Leah Escalona came up with some big rebounds.
8A vs Taylor
The 8th Grade Lady Viking Basketball Team went on the road to Taylor this week. The Lady Vikings were looking to improve their scoring from last week's match up vs a very tough and talented Lampasas team whose height and defense had given the girls a tough opening to the basketball season.
The Lady Vikings were able to do just that as the girls managed to put 21 points on the scoreboard vs the Ducks. In fact the girls were able to tie the score at 14 points a piece early in the second quarter after turning the Ducks over several consecutive times erasing an early 8 point deficit. Taylor would build and maintain their lead throughout the rest of the night going on to get their first win of the season. However the Lady Vikings showed improvement on both sides of the court, creating turnovers on the defensive end and converting on scoring chances on the offensive side. This group of young ladies has been working hard each day in practice. They work well and are very supportive of one another and are continuing to improve their basketball skills each week. The lady’s will next play in the Thrall tournament on Saturday before enjoying their Thanksgiving break. The next home game for the girls will be the following week as they will host Marble Falls.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
