Help us Grow Our Pumpkin Patches!
NEW this year, YOU can help us invest in our youngest learners by “growing” a pumpkin patch at each of our elementary schools. For a $10 donation, ACE will place a pumpkin* at the elementary school of your choice to grow that school’s patch of ‘lil pumpkins!
The more you help to grow your favorite elementary school’s pumpkin patch, the larger ACE’s investments in our schools can be! Let’s see which school will grow the biggest patch!
To make a donation for the pumpkin patch, click here and make sure to name your elementary school in the comments section.
If we all give a little, we will have a lot to invest. Give a little to help us invest a lot!
Questions? Please contact Jennifer Srivastava at jsrivastava@aceandover.org.
* Although ACE can only grow artificial pumpkins, your donations will help real students grow!
SOUTH SCHOOL COUNCIL
As mandated by the Massachusetts Education Reform Act (June, 1993) South School established a School Council that is a representative, school building-based committee composed of an equal number of parents and staff and a community member. The Council is an advisory body to the principal and its purpose is to assist the principal in reviewing the school building budget, in developing a school improvement plan, and in identifying educational needs and goals for our students at South School. The Council will meet monthly on Thursday mornings from 8:15 - 9:00.
We have vacancies here at South School for Council representation. If you feel you are able to share your time and energy in this capacity, please submit a short paragraph to Brenda Lee to place your name in nomination. Please be assured that the only criterion for eligibility is a love of children and a willingness to serve! In your email, state your desire to serve, any life experiences that may support Council work, and the number of years you are willing to serve (one or two). Please deliver it or email it to the school office (brenda.lee@andoverma.us) by Friday, October 29. If ballots are necessary, they will be sent home through the PTO. Details to follow.
We need your help and assistance since our school will be stronger as a result of our working together on behalf of the children. If you have any questions that we may help you with, please don't hesitate to call us at 978-247-9800. Thank you!
HALLOWEEN AT SOUTH
All students (K-5) will be allowed to wear their costumes, if they choose, on Friday, October 29th. Please have students refrain from wearing masks or anything that represents violence (fake blood, weapons, etc).
We will be having a Kindergarten parade outdoors at 9:30. Kindergarten parents are welcome to attend and meet us outside. If it rains, the parade will be moved indoors for school staff and students only.
SOUTH PTO PIE SALE!
Our Pie Sale is back, and better than ever! (image below)
Save some time and support South School by purchasing your holiday pies through the annual Pie Sale. Be sure to check your child's backpack on Monday for ordering information! A reminder that, even if you aren't a pie person yourself, there is the opportunity to order a pie for a faculty or staff member on the order form.

"Parenting Past the Pandemic: A Guide to Returning to School”
With Dr. Damon Korb
Thursday, October 28, 2021
7:00 PM- 8:15 PM (free)
Zoom link to register below and on the website @ com
After a long stay at home, we’re eager to dive back into school. Flexing our scholastic and social muscles again takes practice and for some children it can be scary. Before COVID many of us led overscheduled lives. While quarantining, we learned a lot about our kids, their temperaments, needs and limits. Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician Dr. Damon Korb guides us through the new normal and shares advice about how to navigate school and home life as the pandemic continues, including:
- Collaborating with your child’s teacher during the transition to in-person learning
- Providing appropriate support for your anxious child
- Returning to the organization and structure your child needs to thrive
- Weaning kids off the electronic devices that have been their lifeline during the coronavirus crisis.
Dr. Korb shares how to set realistic expectations that prioritize well-being and implement strategies that give our children free time and space to thrive.
This is a Zoom event. Advanced registration required.
