Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
We have lots of things to share out in this edition of Sunset Express!
Our first month of school is in the books and we are well on our way to a successful school year. Our first month was all aboutlearning the expectations, reviewing the 7 Habits and establishing our learning focus through beginning year assessments. October brings a focus on Habit #1 Be Proactive and we will be establishing our instructional practices and learning behaviors to help our students reach their potential.
We enjoyed our first Lunch with the Principal this week to honor our students who demonstrated strong leader behavior all month. Each month two students from each class are nominated to have a special lunch celebration with me where we share our joy and enjoy some treats together! I shared with all students that if I didn't have lunch with them this month--maybe they can earn that recognition next month. 🤩
Next week is our Spirit Week to celebrate along with our VHS Homecoming week. We hope to see lots of SPIRIT with our kiddos having fun dressing up!😎
Please mark your calendars for our upcoming half-day.
On October 14th we will dismiss at 12:15 and lunch will be served.
Our PTSO Trunk or Treat is October 14th-- be sure to check below for the details or check out the PTSO Facebook page.👻🎃
Please see below for information on our Red Ribbon Week and Anti-Bullying awareness week coming up in October and led by our counselor, Ms. Brooks. 🥰💗
Looking ahead we want to share out about our Halloween festivities. Our Halloween Parade will be held on October 31st around our outside track (weather permitting) at 2:30. Students' costumes should refrain from having gore such as "blood", or any type of props such as weapons.
We are still looking to hire happy-spirited people to join our playground supervisors. This position is a few hours a day Monday-Friday and is a great way to connect with our school. Please contact Ms Lewis at alewis@vicksburgschools.org if you are interested in joining our Sunset Team as a Cafeteria/Playground supervisor.
Things to Know:
- Communication regarding the end of the day for your child must be communicated by 3:00 to help our office and teachers be prepared for your child's end-of-day plan.
- Our Sunset Lake Office # 321-1500.
- When dropping off or picking up your child, please be sure to use one of our designated pedestrian walk-ways outlined with yellow paint. This helps keep our cars moving and helps limit the number of people between cars.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw

Free & Reduced Meal Application
IMPORTANT REMINDER: For the past two years school meals were funded through state grants and families were not asked to complete a Free & Reduced Meal Application. This year the state is no longer fully funding school meals so families must complete school meal applications once again. We encourage all families to complete a form to help ensure our school gets the proper funding from both state and federal agencies. The application is linked below, so please take the time to complete your family application. Thank You!
All families please fill out a free and reduced-price meal application at this link
We thank you in advance for your cooperation!
