Notification of Law Enforcement Drill
We are notifying you that our annual law enforcement (i.e. Run-Hide-Fight) drill with partners from the Northbrook Police Department will be conducted on Wednesday, November 2. This mandated drill addresses an active threat within the school building in a controlled and age-appropriate manner.
We announce all law enforcement drills to school personnel and students in advance. Parents also have the opportunity to exempt their child for any reason from participating (Public Act 102-0395). Please note: Alternative safety instruction related to an active threat must be provided to students who do not participate in the drill.
This drill is one of several safety drills conducted over the course of the school year, including evacuation (fire), severe weather (tornado), and bus evacuation. Safety is always our priority at Maple School and we are grateful for strong community support. If you have any questions or wish to "opt-out" your child from this drill, please contact the front desk.

Halloween dress up on Monday, October 31
We are excited to see you in costumes on Halloween! In order to make the day a success, we want to go over a few guidelines. Most importantly, all costumes must be school appropriate.
The following items are not allowed:
Masks, face coverings or anything that impedes vision
Weapons of any kind (real or toy)
Anything that promotes drugs or alcohol
Anything that involves ethnic or racial stereotypes
Please remember that this is still a school day. Students are expected to fully participate in each class throughout the day. Students should bring a change of clothing, in case their costume is deemed inappropriate or becomes distracting to the learning process. We are looking forward to everyone following the guidelines, coming up with creative costumes, and having fun!
Note: The same costume guidelines apply for the Halloween Party on Friday, 10/28/22.

November is Native American Heritage Month
District 30 joins our nation in recognizing November as National Native American Heritage Month or, as it is also referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.
According to the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), this month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. It's also a time to learn about tribes, gain awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.

Caucus Endorsement Deadline is Nov. 21
Candidates who are interested in seeking endorsement from the District 30 School Board Caucus should contact Co-Chairs Karen Burstein (karenrb27@comcast.net) and Katie Schick (kateschick0609@gmail.com) by Monday, November 21. The School Board Caucus is a committee of District 30 residents that includes families both with and without children enrolled in Willowbrook, Wescott and Maple schools. The Caucus' role is to source, screen and endorse potential school board candidates. To be considered by the Caucus, candidates will need to complete a detailed application as well as an interview.
Nomination Petition Deadline is Dec. 19
Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 will have four school board seats to be filled at the Consolidated Election on April 4, 2023. Candidates who are elected will fill four-year terms expiring in April 2027.
Candidates for the office of the school board can now circulate nominating petitions for signatures. The period for filing nominating petitions runs from December 12 through December 19, 2022.
A candidate for the school board is required to file the nominating petitions, Statement of Candidacy, and receipt for filing their Statement of Economic Interests with the applicable county election clerk and not with the school board secretary or the administrative offices of the school district. The county clerk may have petition forms available, or blank petitions may be downloaded from the State Board of Elections website: elections.il.gov.
Candidates may also want to consult the “2023 Candidate’s Guide” (https://www.elections.il.gov//Downloads/ElectionOperations/PDF/2023CanGuide.pdf), which can be downloaded from the Illinois State Board of Elections website, or contact the county clerk or board of election commissioners regarding the requirements of filing. Candidates and voters can get information about District 30 from our website and learn about being a school board member from the Illinois Association of School Boards at: iasb.com/elections.
