Some thoughts from Principal Erwin
Final exams will be here soon and this is a great time for students to prepare themselves for that week (January 21, 22, 23, 24). Here are a few ways you can help:
- Please try to avoid scheduling appointments on these days.
- Encourage students to review their grades and be sure that they complete as much work as possible between now and the end of the term.
- Remind students that they have time to get organized for studying now (gather notes, complete readings, form study groups with classmates).
- Reinforce productive use of Beaver Lodge. Students have three hours every week of dedicated academic or teacher access time. Good use of this time can make a tremendous difference.
- Encourage good sleep habits (8 hours/night).
- Offer frequent positive encouragement and encourage students to work on staying focused and calm as they prepare.
- We all expect excellence in whatever our students do and support them in achieving those high standards. We also support a healthy and mindful attitude toward the academic demands on students. We can all remind students we want them to do their best and give every endeavor their best effort.

Beaver Den and main office requests
Below is a link to an Amazon wishlist for items for our Beaver Den. Thanks for any help you can send our way.
The hopes of our community
At Beaver Days we asked students to craft a hope for the coming year. Later teachers added their hopes during in-service, and families added theirs during other events. The table shows the distribution of hopes of students and community (staff and families).
By far, the largest number of students chose a hope relating to grades or GPA. This is a good reminder to all of us that our students hold personal aspirations toward excellence. We can help them achieve these aspirations by offering encouragement and supports.
The original hope tags will soon be used by art students to create a permanent display of the collective aspirations of our school.
Success Fund supports literacy
Recently the Success Fund pledged $5,000 to support the addition of Spanish novels in ELA classes. Those texts began to arrive last week and are a welcome addition to the classroom collections. We are grateful for this wonderful gift of support for our students.
This year the Success Fund is also supporting:
- Our after school weights program that is open to all students. Currently about 150 students participate each week.
- Culture Grants that support students in completing various projects around school to enhance our culture (mural, clubs, etc.). These grants are made possible by resources from Success Fund.
Coffee, tea, and a bit of help
Attendance matters
- Every day of these last three weeks of the semester are critical. Thank you for all you do to encourage strong attendance.
- If a student must be gone due to illness or appointment, please be sure to call the attendance office to excuse the absence.
- Remind students to connect with their teachers if they miss class.
