Some thoughts from Principal Erwin

Monday, it was wonderful to welcome everyone back from winter break. I certainly hope our students and families found time to rest, enjoy some down time, read, and get energized for the remaining three weeks of the semester.

Final exams will be here soon and this is a great time for students to prepare themselves for that week (January 21, 22, 23, 24). Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Please try to avoid scheduling appointments on these days.
  • Encourage students to review their grades and be sure that they complete as much work as possible between now and the end of the term.
  • Remind students that they have time to get organized for studying now (gather notes, complete readings, form study groups with classmates).
  • Reinforce productive use of Beaver Lodge. Students have three hours every week of dedicated academic or teacher access time. Good use of this time can make a tremendous difference.
  • Encourage good sleep habits (8 hours/night).
  • Offer frequent positive encouragement and encourage students to work on staying focused and calm as they prepare.
  • We all expect excellence in whatever our students do and support them in achieving those high standards. We also support a healthy and mindful attitude toward the academic demands on students. We can all remind students we want them to do their best and give every endeavor their best effort.

Beaver Achievers

With final exams approaching Beaver Achievers is a chance for students to spend some quiet, dedicated time on homework, projects, or completion of essential skills work samples (12th grade). Beaver Achievers runs Saturdays 9:00-12:00 in the BHS Library. For more information contact Mariah Mercado in the BHS main office.

Attendance matters

As of the week before winter break our attendance for all grades was still above 90%. Excellence Inspires Us.

  • Every day of these last three weeks of the semester are critical. Thank you for all you do to encourage strong attendance.
  • If a student must be gone due to illness or appointment, please be sure to call the attendance office to excuse the absence.
  • Remind students to connect with their teachers if they miss class.
