Outstanding Scholarship Opportunity in Machining at Calhoun Community College

Calhoun Community College has received a grant from the Gene Haas Foundation that will allow the college to present eight scholarships in Machine Tool Technology to area high school students for the 2019/20 college year. The Madison County School System has been selected to receive two of those scholarships which have a total value of $3,400 each.

This is a great opportunity for Madison County students, and the criteria are very simple. To be considered for the Gene Haas scholarships, incoming students are required to have a 2.5 GPA, to complete a Calhoun application for admission, and to complete both a FAFSA and a scholarship application by March 1, 2019. Information and links to the required applications can be found at the following: https://calhoun.edu/student-services/financial-aid/calhoun-scholarships/.

The demand for machine tool technicians and operators continues to increase. There are over 200 machine shops in north Alabama alone, and the need for entry level technicians and operators in the service area is greater than the current supply of qualified individuals. These scholarships can provide an outstanding opportunity for the future for two Hazel Green High School students. No prior career/technical coursework is required. The students need only be interested in training for a great career in the high wage/high demand field of Machine Tool Technology. Industries in our area such as Boeing, ULA, Brown Precision Inc., In-Tech America Medical, Dynetics, Parker Hannifin, IMS INC., NASA, and many more have jobs available for trained, qualified machinists.
