Parents create books
Learning colors
"Reading" bilingual books
We have begun monthly Family Activity Days at our Scottsbluff site. These days are for families with children 3 to 5 years old who are not enrolled in pre-school. We collaborate with local community agencies who serve young children to provide informational session for parents. While the parents are learning how to support their children's education, the children participate in hands on vocabulary , literacy and math learning activities. Our next Family Activity Day is March 12 from 9:00 to 10:30 at ESU 13, 4215 Avenue I Scottsbluff.

New Online Tutoring Group - Gordon
Monday, February 25, the Migrant Education Program began an after school, online tutoring group at Gordon Elementary. Seven students attended the first day, and got right to work, taking their pre-tests and beginning lessons. The group is supervised by Rhonda Case, our Migrant Education Recruiter, who is also a certified teacher. A similar after school group has been meeting at Roosevelt Elementary in Scottsbluff since December, with local after school program staff assisting. Twenty two students have participated in the Roosevelt program, and many of the students are beginning to make gains. We are excited to now bring this program to migrant students in Gordon!
This year, we have been working to find effective, less expensive alternatives to the traditional one to one tutoring that we had been able to offer in the past. Ten Marks Math, an online math curriculum, gives us the opportunity to assess and differentiate instruction in math in a more cost effective way than traditional tutoring . We chose math because the achievement gap that between migrant students and their non-migrant peers has been particularly high. Our aim is to help close that achievement gap.
If your school is interested in an after school online math group, call Kiowa Rogers at 308-635-3696.
GED Success Story - Bridgeport
I got my GED. I surprised everyone. Now I’ve got plans to go to Wisconsin and go to UTI, which is Universal Technical Institution for Diesel and Auto Mechanics. I’m going to do that with the help of organizations out there that will help me. But it’s not easy.
To all those who are doing the same thing, maybe you can just keep your heads up. Don’t’ let hard work make you want to quit. Hard work makes you stronger more than just physically. It makes you mentally stronger. It makes you ready for the world, because the world’s coming. If you’re not ready, it’s really going to hurt. It might take a long time. It took me years. I think I’ve been working on my GED for about four years off and on. I wasn’t really trying at first, but I was working on it. But I did it, and now I don’t have to worry about not having an education. I can go ahead and further my education. Thank you Rosie. I couldn’t have done it without you being there through the times that I wasn’t trying. You gave me the motivation to get it done, so thank you, Rosie. You are my hero!
Do you know a young person who needs a second chance?

ESU 13 Migrant Education Program
The ESU 13 Migrant Education Program is a Title 1, Part C program under the Nebraska Department of Education. The mission of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that migrant children fully benefit from the same free public education provided to other children. To achieve this, the MEP supports educational programs for migrant children to help reduce the educational disruptions and other problems that result from repeated moves.
