LAST WEEK ON THE RIDGE
This past week was a busy one for our LINKS team as they sponsored several end of the year traditions. The Coyote Choir performed "Rock Around the Clock" this past Monday night. The evening ended with awards and a cookie treat reception. Thanks to Mrs. Taguiam for providing this after school activity for students that love to sing and perform! Luckily this past Tuesday, the threat of rain did not stop our scheduled NEISD annual Track and Field Day at Heroes stadium. 4th & 5th grade students competed against other NEISD Elementary schools in field events, individual running races and team relay races. Ribbons were given to students as they completed their events. Congratulations to all of our Coyote Athletes and much appreciation to Coach Hernandez for sponsoring the after school Fitness Club and her daily morning and afternoon patrol duty that help keep our campus safe! On Saturday our Robotics Team participated in the Robotics Showcase at Churchill High School. Each team created a demonstration board that allowed robots to move trash to the recycling center. Each board was different based on the individual campus team creations. Students were challenged as they had to synergize, plan, program and calibrate the movement of each robot on the board. A big thanks to Mrs. Howk, Mrs. Goodwin, Mr. Litzner and our parent volunteers, Mr. Tredemeyer and Mrs. Taylor.
RED NOSE DAY MAY 26, 2016
Next Thursday, May 26, is RED NOSE DAY. People across the country are wearing Red Noses to raise awareness and money for kids in poverty. What’s with the nose? It's the universal symbol for Red Nose Day. It’s funny and fun. Sharing a laugh brings people together. We hope that student participation will continue the idea of social responsibility to our students. You can buy your red nose at any Walgreens location and the proceeds will benefit all 50 states and 15 countries internationally. All money raised supports projects that ensure kids are safe, healthy, and educated. Students can also participate next Thursday by drawing a red dot on their noses to support the cause!
More about Red Nose Day…
Red Nose Day is a fundraising campaign run by the non-profit organization Comic Relief Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) public charity. Red Nose Day has raised over $1 billion globally in the last 25 years, and in the UK has become a cultural phenomenon where people across the country come together to have fun, raise money and change lives. Red Nose Day launched in the U.S. in 2015, dedicated to raising money to help children who are most in need, both in the U.S. and in some of the poorest communities in the world.
CAFETERIA CHARGES & MISSING LIBRARY BOOKS
SUMMER READING FROM MRS HOWK & MRS. STAFFEL
Research indicates that children who read over summer vacation maintain the reading achievements of the previous school year & avoid the “summer slide” .
Would you like to check out Canyon Ridge library books for your child to read over the summer?
A PARENT may come to the library during the last week of school, May 30-June 2, to get the books and sign an agreement to be responsible for the books. Up to 10 books per child may be checked out. The books will be due back the first week of school in August. Students may not check out the books on their own. A parent must sign for the books and take the books home (the book agreement is attached below if you would like to print it out in advance & bring it with you – You can even visit the Canyon Ridge website online and put together a list with your child(ren) of books that you would like to check out). If you plan to move away over the summer, please do not participate. Thanks!
P.S. Our Canyon Ridge library website contains many links about summer reading opportunities. There are links to programs in San Antonio that encourage and reward readers – Check them out! We also have information about e-books that are available 24-7 year-round from the Canyon Ridge Library. We will also post the reading lists for Battle of the Books (3rd & 4th grade), Bluebonnet list (3rd-6th grade) and Texas 2x2’s (Pre-k through 2nd) Please check out these great opportunities! Happy READING!
