Parent Teacher Conferences and 2021-2022 Course Selection
Next week begins Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences which are occurring on Monday, March 22 from 2:30pm-6:30pm and on Thursday, March 25 from 8:00am-8:00pm. These conferences are primarily focused on enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. You should have received an invitation from your student’s advisory teacher to schedule a time to meet via zoom or over the phone. In preparation for these conferences, advisory teachers have met with their advisory students to complete the course selection process.
During these conferences, you will determine your student’s placement for in-person or virtual instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. If you are electing for your student to be virtual, offerings are reduced to the classes listed below. All other courses including, but not limited to, performance courses (i.e. Band, Orchestra, Choir), upper-level courses, (i.e. College Algebra, Chemistry 211, Composition 1) and co-curricular activities (i.e. Debate, Competitive Drama, etc.) will only be offered to students selecting in-person instruction.
Moving forward, in-person to virtual or virtual to in-person requests will only be permitted at semester and the request must be placed before the following semester begins. No requests will be granted once the new semester begins for the current semester.
If you have not done so, please discuss your student’s course selection for next year, they’re interest in activities, and their in-person or virtual selection. This is a collaborative process, so as questions arise, please feel free to reach out to your student’s advisory teacher, counselor or administrator. Raytown High School COVID-19 InformationWe all play a role in preventing the spread of COVID-19. You can help by reinforcing hand hygiene and promoting mask compliance as the school year progresses. It is critical for students/staff to stay home when they have symptoms of COVID-19, even if they are someone who suffers from regular seasonal allergies. Individuals who are sick should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from local healthcare providers. Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Staff and students exhibiting flu-like symptoms are asked to stay home and contact the Jackson County Health Department or Kansas City Health Department (the department you call is determined by your home address) for further instructions.
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some people with COVID-19 have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. In some situations, the virus can develop into pneumonia. Staff and families of students who are ill should notify the office to report any absence.
Currently, we have 1 active cases of COVID-19 at Raytown High School. This number includes both new and continuing cases as cases are active for 10 days after symptom onset or a positive COVID-19 test.

If you were not notified, prior to receiving this email, that means that you and/or your student were determined to not have been in close contact with the individual who tested positive. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “close contact is defined as any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two (2) days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, two (2) days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.” There are no additional steps or precautions you or your household need to take at this time.
The individual(s) who tested positive and anyone who had close contact with the positive case(s) will not return to school until their self-quarantine ends. Please call the school with any questions regarding COVID-19 procedures.

Technology Support for Students In Person
As we try to mitigate risk, I have created a plan to support students with technology needs.
Virtual students will be supported as they are now.
- They will call or email Technology Student Support at (816) 268-7172 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Our Technology staff can help troubleshoot and also schedule them for a swap if needed.
In-person students with technology issues will be supported in the following manner:
- On their device, a student can fill out a "student device incident form" which will generate an email alert for Joe directly.
- This form can be found on their Student Resources page of Raytown Schools
- If a student's device will not work, the student's teacher can then email Joe.
- When available, Joe will visit the student's classroom to retrieve the laptop and in turn supply a Loaner device.
- Once the laptop is fixed, I will deliver it back to the student and retrieve the Loaner device.
As of the of the February 8th RQS School Board meeting, we will begin hybrid learning on Monday, March 1st.
Students who have elected to stay virtual will continue to attend class via Zoom and will not attend in-person instruction during the week. Students will continue to use the same Google Classroom and Zoom links. Students are expected to attend Zoom classes during their scheduled time
The schedule will be as follows:
Monday and Tuesday:
Periods 1, 3, 5, 7 will meet via Zoom
Thursday and Friday:
Periods 2, 4, 6 will meet via Zoom
Students have whom have elected to return to school in-person will assigned to either an A Day or B Day schedule and will only attend in person two days a week. The schedule will be as follows:
A Day Schedule:
- Monday and Tuesday: Students will attend in person and follow their class schedule of periods 1-7.
- Thursday and Friday: Students will have asynchronous assignments and no direct, teacher- led virtual instruction.
B Day Schedule:
- Monday and Tuesday: Students will have asynchronous assignments and no direct, teacher- led virtual instruction.
- Thursday and Friday: Students will attend in person and follow their class schedule of periods 1-7.
ALL students will be virtual on Wednesdays. They will have the opportunities to receive one-on-one or small group tutoring time via Zoom or time to complete asynchronous assignments. Students will need to arrange times or requests appointments with their teachers to receive Zoom tutoring on this day.
Students will receive thier A or B day assignment in an email communication from the district early next week.
Health and Safety Expectations
Additional detailed information regarding students' returning to in-person learning will be shared in the 02-26-21 Newsletter Update
- All students, staff, and visitors must wear a mask at all times in the building at all times. Masks must be worn properly, fully covering the mouth and nose.
- Students must provide their own masks
- Physical Distancing whenever possible (over six feet)
- Classes will have strict seating charts for contact tracing purposes
- Outside food may not be delivered to the office during the school day
- Students exhibiting any symptoms of COVID 19 who feel ill should stay home
- Students presenting symptoms and feeling ill at school will be placed in the quarantine room and will be required to be picked up
- Any positive COVID 19 student cases must be reported to the school. Families will receive further instructions on the quranting procedures.
- Students who are walkers, car riders, or drivers should NOT arrive before 7:00.
- Students may only enter the building using the South entrance doors on 61st street or the entrance on the East side of the building where the Chittwood Stadium is located. No other doors will be unlocked for entry with exception to wheelchair accessible entrances.
- Upon entry, students' will be required to go through the temperature scan.
- Student choosing to eat breakfast will report directly to the cafeteria. Students not eating breakfast must report directly to their first hour and remain seated in their assigned seat.
- Students may not congregate in the halls.
- Specific parking and drop-off diagrams will be sent in the 02-26-21 BlueJay Bulletin Update.
Food and Beverage Procedures
- Students are only allowed to eat in assigned areas.
- All students eating breakfast must eat in the cafeteria.
- Classes will be assigned to specific tables during lunch where they will be socially distanced.
- Students can bring a personal water bottle to school (plastic one-use water bottles will also be available). There will be no water fountains.
- When consuming water in the classroom, students can temporarily remove their mask while drinking and then must replace it immediately after drinking
- Food may not be consumed in the classroom
- Students and staff must wear masks at all times and use physical distancing when possible.
- Classroom arrangements will promote physical distancing within the CDC guidelines.
- There will be seating charts that will be strictly enforced in every class.
- All assignments, labs, and group work will follow social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC.
- No physical touching is allowed (handshake, high five, pat on the back, etc.).
- Students and staff should use hand sanitizer frequently.
- Desks will be sanitized between each class.
- Office, counseling center, and restroom passes will be by adult escort only to help promote health and safety and allow for contact tracing
- Students will be dismissed by class over the intercom.
- Restrooms will be monitored by staff for social distancing.
- Stairs will be designated as one direction.
- Students should walk on the right side of the hallway and maintain social distance.
- No congregating of students in any area.
- Students are to go directly to their next class, stopping only to take care of necessary personal business.
- Students will be dismissed by class.
- Student must go directly to their bus, vehicle, or activity.
- Students are NOT to stay in the building after 2:20 unless they are supervised by a coach or sponsor in a designated area.
- If students are car riders, they must have transportation promptly at dismissal time. Any student who is not picked up by 2:30 will need to use bus transportation, if applicable, or find alternative means of transportation.
