BHS EXPEDITION CLUB

The Bandon Expedition Club has been around since the 1980s. Trent Hatfield and Calan Taylor are the current trip initiators/coordinators. Jen Ells does a ton of volunteer work for the club as well. Last year the club went rock climbing, surfing, paddle boarding, day hiking, and beach clean-up trips. So far this year there have been two trips, a surfing day at Little Chile, and a 16-mile backpacking trip. Last weekend 8 intrepid students signed up to hike from China Beach to Floras Lake. The first 7 miles were lovely and the camping, storytelling, fire, and music were all memorable. The second day was a 12-mile trudge through soft sand that introduced students to the realities of what outdoors enthusiasts call, "Type 2 fun." In the end, everyone had a good time and said they would do it again. Big thanks to Linda Eickhoff, for chaperoning, and Jean and Karina for shuttling kids and gear back to Bandon. There are more trips planned this year including mountain biking, a Redwoods trip, paddle boarding, a visit to the UO physics labs, and a 3rd annual trip to Yosemite National Park. Kids who are interested should talk to Hatfield, Ells, or Taylor.

Student Council

Student hand book

All of our students should have recently signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.
Student Hand Book

Please take some time to review our student handbook with your student. We would particularly like you to remind your student of our expectations with regards to cell phones and appropriate technology use.

After School Plans

If you need to get a message to your student about after school plans, please make sure that you call our office before 3:00pm. Things often get hectic, and we may not be able to deliver the message before release.

Cell Phone Policy

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.
