Notes From Dickson's Desk
This year our motto at Creekside Oaks is REDEFINE THE POSSIBLE. By definition, "redefine" means to "define differently". And in many ways, we are defining education differently. That doesn't just mean adjusting what's happening in the classroom, it's also about redefining the systems that are in place to navigate the school day. When you consider that a number of our students haven't been on a school campus in more than a year or that half our students had never been in a school cafeteria before, you can see where it's necessary to redefine a number of things. I appreciate your patience as we ALL navigate this school year and adapt and adjust to changing situations. The phrase “that’s how we always did it” just doesn’t apply. We’ve never done this before. It’s different. It’s new. It’s uncomfortable. But, I have every confidence that our Creekside Oaks community - students, parents, teachers & staff - can handle these challenges!
One of the things we had to adjust is water. Our drinking fountains are closed, so please make sure your student comes to school with a refillable water bottle. We have filling stations around campus, including one right outside the cafeteria. During lunch, campus supervisors will have cups if students don't have a water bottle and need water. Thank you to those who have donated bottled water to classrooms. If you'd like to help, contact your student's teacher or drop off donations in the front office.
Our classes will start working with Starstruck this week! Each class has a weekly rehearsal during the school day and the culminating event will be an evening performance for our families. Our performance date is scheduled for Oct. 7 with shows at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Folks, I have to be honest. We don't know what October is going to look like with COVID numbers, mandates, etc. In normal years, the performance would happen inside the community center. Right now we just don't know if that will be possible. We're moving forward with rehearsals and will plan on the performance on October 7, I just want to be transparent about what that might look like. We're exploring several options including an outside performance. Please be patient. We're excited to offer this fun opportunity but will need to be safe when bringing together large groups of people.
We've had a number of students coming to school tardy. Just a reminder that school starts at 8:15 for all grade levels. Please ensure your student is arriving on time. Students dropped off after 8:15 need to report to the front office to get a late slip.
