This is your Captain Speaking!
Hello Birdneck Family,
Have you ever stopped to take a moment to think about what a huge difference you have made in a student's life. Each and every day you do whether you realize it or not, a child in your room counts the minutes before they can enter your classroom, the safe place, the place where they are free to think, free to learn, and free to make mistakes. This child knows that you care about them no matter what problems they bring into your classroom, no matter what difficulties they have with getting work done, and no matter what ever else is going in in the world. They know that no matter what, you make them feel like they are part of your family and deep down, even though they don't always show it, they know you love them. Even the most difficult kids in our classrooms know you are here for them, care for them, and love them. You are doing an amazing job and I thank you for all that you do. We are Birdneck and We are Family!
Captain out,
RV

Shout Outs!
If you would like to give a SHOUT OUT to a colleague, it is as simple as sending an email to RV to be added to our Shout Outs each week!
Shout out to Nikki Beck. Even with the challenges of dealing with multiple SOL grades, she always remains positive. Thanks Nikki for always doing what is best for students, being flexible and accepting constructive feedback. Thank you for your continued dedication to our Birdneck Family.
I'd like to give a shout out to Sue Rosignolo who works tremendously hard with fifth grade to ensure our students receive the best math instruction. She will do anything to support the teachers she works with. She is a valuable team player and we are fortunate to work with her.
Shout out to the 2nd grade teachers for being flexible with their schedules during the reading block to meet the needs of their students!
You Make a Difference
Mrs. Bishop goes above and beyond for her students. She makes it a point to attend Birdneck events from musical performances to Trunk or Treat to all PTA functions. She even stepped up to be the PTA treasurer when they didn’t have anyone to fill that position. Her children know they are truly loved. Thank you, Mrs. Bishop, for all you do for Birdneck students and our community. You truly do make a difference in our school!
Compass to 2025
STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK
VBCPS is beginning the process to create our next strategic framework "Compass to 2025"
Our current five-year strategic framework includes four goals - high academic expectations, multiple pathways, social-emotional development, and culture of growth and excellence – and multiple strategies to guide this important work. Making a difference for every student, every day.
Compass to 2020 GOALS
1.High Academic Expectations- all students will be challenged and supported to achieve a high standard of academic performance and growth; gaps between these expectation and the realities for our student subgroups will be addressed
2.Multiple Pathways- all students will experience personalized learning opportunities to prepare them for post-secondary education, employment or military service
3.Social-Emotional Development- all students will benefit from an educational experience that fosters their social and emotional development.
4.Culture of Growth and Excellence- VBCPS will be defined by a culture of growth and excellence forstudents, staff, parents and the community.
Your input is requested. We will be discussing this in our staff meeting on Thursday afternoon.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Multiple staff have family members, who have been struggling with health concerns recently. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
Please keep Abbi Juer and Suzan Gentry as well as their families for the loss of their loved ones.
