Semester 2 learning selection changes?
In order to accommodate the needs of our students, families may make a change to their learning model preference - remote-only or in-person/hybrid - during the open windows specified below.
Semester timeline to request change: November 9 - 20
Second semester begins January 6
Manning will send out and post our survey for families who wish to change their learning style choice on November 9. You will only need to fill out this survey if you intent to change from one to the other. As with the previous survey, there will be a deadline and this decision will hold for the semester.
Mobile Mustang Information Corral
Hello, Mobile Mustang Parents and Guardians!
This week begins the 2nd quarter. We have added 13 new students to the Mobile Mustang group and it was a great week to review expectations and procedures in all of our classes. With the different classes, we teachers are working hard to align practices and web tools.
A new addition to the Manning website is a link to our “Cheat Sheet” that gives insight for kids and you about what we are using, why we might use it, and how you can see how your child is using it. We hope this is a helpful tool for you and eases up on the technology names your kids are throwing along. We understand you are supporting your child and helping. Please continue to write to any of the Mobile Mustang core teachers (Ms. Cahill, Ms. Edoff, Mr. Fulton, Mr. Johnson) with ways we can help you support your child. Here is a link to the Digital Tools Cheat Sheet where you can bookmark or print to help in the future.
In addition to classroom policies and procedures review, during Social Studies, students were shown Securly, an internet safety website. This is a tool for parents and/or teachers to use to view computer activity and history in agreement with the District Policy JS – Student Use of District Computing Resources and the Internet . Parents and teachers can restrict websites if needed. We teachers will use this occasionally mostly if we have concerns about a student during class, but this may be a great tool to help you check in with your child as well. If interested, see the Digital Tools Cheat Sheet to get the link to sign up or get the app on your phone.
Thank you for your continued support of your child and the Manning Mobile Mustangs!

A Message from the PTA
We would like to thank everyone for supporting the Bob's Atomic Burger fundraiser. Through the participation of our Manning Community we raised $700! We received a very sincere apology from Bob's regarding the long wait times, as apparently Manning families excel in burger eating as well as everything else 😊, but it was worth the wait! We truly appreciate your participation and patience (and also support for this local business)!
As part of the PTA's 20/21 efforts to provide useful programming and a sense of community to our parents, we are offering a number of presentations and trainings. Our next event is on the very important topic of suicide prevention. Suicide is the leading cause of death in Colorado for youth ages 10-24 and Colorado is unfortunately #1 in the nation for youth suicide. We would like to offer this training in an effort to change this trend. Led by Shawna Fritzler - a Manning alumna parent, Jeffco PTA president and QPR certified trainer - we will learn how to identify warning signs and how to effectively support someone considering suicide.
The PTA will be providing the training free to our members. Non-members are absolutely welcome and encouraged to attend, but are asked to consider joining the PTA or to provide a small donation to cover the cost of materials (via the donate button found at manningpta.org). Please note that this event is capped at 35 participants and is meant for adults 18 and up, but if we have more interest, we can add an additional session at a later date. If you would like to attend this training on Thursday, November 12 from 6:30-8:30pm please follow this link to register:
If you have any questions, please let us know at manningmiddlepta@gmail.com.
Save the Date! Our next PTA fundraiser will be on Tuesday, November 17 at Noodles (Applewood) from 4-8. See you there!
Outdoor Recess Policy
- If it is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, or
- If it is actively precipitating.
As the weather gets colder, please keep this in mind and send your students to school with the proper outdoor attire. Thank you!
Upcoming EF Tours Trip to London, Paris & Rome!
Greetings, Manning families!
As you may know, we are hopeful and thrilled to be traveling to London, Paris, & Rome in June 2021, and we would love for your student to join us! We have 6 spots remaining on the trip led by Ms. McLeod and are accepting new enrollments through December 20th, after which we will officially close enrollment.
Here is a recording of our last informational meeting presentation from early June so you can hear from Ms. McLeod and get more information about the trip. The program price may have changed since that meeting, so be sure to visit our tour page and scroll to the bottom for the most up to date price and to start the enrollment process: www.eftours.com/2393542YZ.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ms. McLeod, or our educational travel partner, EF Tours (800-665-5364), with any questions.
We look forward to having you along to join in the fun!
Ms. McLeod (Manning 6th grade ELA)
A note from our School Resource Officer, Deputy Candise Lewis
As the School Resource Officer, it is my sole responsibility to keep your children safe while they are at school. Part of doing so is teaching them about the law. Every year I encounter cases where children have sent and/or received naked photographs, sometimes with people they know and sometimes with strangers. I will be holding small classes where I will explain, in an age appropriate manner, the dangers that comes with sexting. My hope is that there will be zero sexting case from Manning this year as a result of my presentation. I will be meeting with the Mobile Mustangs via Zoom on Monday 11/2, Hybrid A on 11/16 and Hybrid B on 11/18.
Thank you ,
Deputy Candise Lewis
Notice to 8th grade Families from Lakewood High School
SEL Corner....a place to fill up your bucket
Social networking isn’t just for social media and job prospects. As a research assistant in grad school, I had the opportunity to create the skeleton data for a social network to facilitate suicide prevention or gatekeeper training. At Drake I brought this experience to look at how our students are connected to each other and our staff, then applied this data to create further connections. I am asking to do the same here at Manning. This data will only be used to create connections, learn more about our community, and be intentional in learning about our gaps. To participate in this data collection please share this google form with your Manning student(s).Want to learn more about social networking data? Click here for one example.
This is the last week I will be calling for referrals to the lunch bunches food 6th grade. Next week invitations will be sent out. Click here to express your interest
At Manning, we strive to live our core values every day.
Student Shout Out for Honesty
Student Shout Out for Effort
Liya Brunfon: Enthusiastic and hard working. Everything she does is thoughtful and detailed!
Asher Bruns: New to the school and adjusting well! Works hard and always asks questions!
Lila Doratik works so hard in class and is always thorough and detailed!
Samantha Reimer: Despite not being as technology proficient as others in August, she learned quickly and asked for help when needed. She has done amazingly well with navigating various resources and completing assignments. Way to go, Samantha! -Mr. Johnson
Student Shout Out for Achievement
Lily and Olivia Johnson: These two have done an exceptional job this semester. They have had technology issues working from home, but rather than quit or complain, they find work arounds and support each other. They have done a masterful of time management and turning in assignments on time while learning in separate rooms. I also greatly value that they contribute to class instead of playing the ""Out Wait Your Teacher"" game so many others like. They keep the class moving and help others. They are model Mobile Mustangs!-Mr. Johnson
Madeline Yoder: Maddie has done an exceptional job of learning online. She has mastered time management to get her assignments done on time and also shown a great ability to ask and get help when she truly needs it. She is a model Mobile Mustang!-Mr. Johnson
Student Shout Out for Respect
Quinn Lee: He consistently participates in class and helps others even though others like to play the Out Wait Your Teacher" game on Zoom. He clearly gives his best effort with assignments and asks for help when he needs it. He is a model student as a Mobile Mustang!
Student Shout Out for Teamwork
Carson Carlsen: He helped his classmates learn to use TinkerCAD!
Jonah Heil: Great attitude and always willing to participate in class discussions! How sick is too sick to stay home from school?
At Jeffco Public Schools, we follow the recommendations from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on when is too sick actually too sick to go to school, work, or child care.
During Colorado's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, children and staff who have been exposed to a positive case or who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 listed below, must follow the Guidance for Cases and Outbreaks in Child Care and Schools.
MAJOR SYMPTOMS of COVID-19
- Feeling feverish, having chills or temperature of 100.4° F or greater
- Loss of taste or smell
- New or unexplained persistent cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
MINOR SYMPTOMS of COVID-19
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Nausea, vomiting
- Diarrhea
There are five main reasons to keep sick children and adults at home:
1. Someone who the child lives with or the staff lives with (or has had close contact with) has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or has symptoms of COVID-19.
2. The child or staff member does not feel well enough to take part in usual activities. For example, a child is overly tired, fussy or will not stop crying.
3. A child needs more care than teachers and staff can give while still caring for the other children.
4. The symptom or illness is on this list, and staying home is required.
5. Someone who the child lives with or the staff lives with is being tested for COVID-19.
Remember, the best ways to stop the spread of infection is through good hand washing and staying home when sick.

Quarantine Process Updates: (direct from the district)
In collaboration with Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) and observing Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) updated guidelines, we are revising our quarantine process effective immediately. This will continue to ensure a comprehensive health and safety process while also potentially reducing the number of quarantined students and staff. The revisions modify the identification process for middle and high school students and staff enabling a more precise targeted identification process.
Updates include:
- Elementary schools will have minimal changes.
- Middle and High Schools will use Targeted Contact Identification which can be used in classrooms under the following conditions:
- when there is a documented seating chart,
- documented identified small group participants every day,
- desks separated and at least 6 feet apart,
- desks facing the same direction,
- and students are seated long enough to make seating charts applicable.
Schools will be implementing classroom modifications to ensure targeted contact identification.
