Happy Thanksgiving Week
CARE Center Provided Meals for Families
Due to the many donations from CUSD schools and the community, the Chandler CARE Center was able to provide nearly 500 families with turkeys and food bags at the Thanksgiving Family Assistance Day. Volunteers from Chandler High and Willis Junior High were on hand to help the distribution go smoothly. Click here to see more pictures from Saturday.

CUSD Student Selected to ask Question of Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor
Rice Elementary Awarded Kroger Grant
Robert J. C. Rice Elementary was awarded a grant for $20,000 through Kroger Co. Zero Hunger l Zero Waste Foundation.
"We are thankful for our community partnership with Fry's Food Stores which will allow our students to extend their learning from the classroom into our beautiful outdoor learning space. Students will learn about growing food, alternate food production methods, composting, reducing waste, and how the environment impacts plant and animal life. The partnership allows us to support our vision of being sustainable, serve the community, organize fun, educational programs and be able to bring the community to our school for a greater purpose," said principal Shirley Mathew.
Willis Junior High Showcase Highlights
The Willis Junior High School students, staff members, and administration invited the community to learn more about the school, see innovative academic programs, view student work, hear musical performances, and learn how Willis is making a difference to students and the community.

Indigenous Excellence in CUSD
Three CUSD staff members receive the Intel Teacher Diversity STEAM grant
Nkiruka Aningo, Susana Ceballos, and Priscilla Gillison are the recipients of the Intel Teacher Diversity STEAM Grant in 2022. Each recipient receives $1200, which can go toward their schooling and education.
"With the grants, both Chandler Unified and Intel promote the vision of diversity and equity within the CUSD community,” Director Of CUSD Equity & Inclusion Adama Sallu said.
“Intel is proud to support CUSD educators dedicated to transforming the school-to-STEAM pipeline into an equitable pathway for all students. Most people had a teacher who changed their life for the better. We are investing in teachers who are inspiring families and striving to make Chandler a more vibrant community for everyone,” Jenn Sanchez, Intel Arizona Community Manager, said.

CUSD Employees and Schools Participate in Light the Night Walk
We’re so grateful to represent Team CUSD at the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Arizona’s Light the Night Walk!
Several CUSD schools participated including Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary School, Knox Gifted Academy, Chandler Learning Center, Haley Elementary, Payne Junior High School, several Casteel High School teams, Shumway Leadership Academy, and Conley Elementary to name a few.
GLSEN Awardees Hail from CUSD
Each year GLSEN Arizona presents awards to community leaders, students and organizations who have notably used their influence, experience, and platform towards creating safer and more affirming environments for our LGBTQ+ youth in Arizona. CUSD Board Member Lindsay Love and CUSD student Dawn Shim were recognized at this year's event. Dawn accepted the Student of the Year award on behalf of student organization Support Equality AZ Schools. Board Member Love received the GLSEN Ally award.

Marching Bands Showcased at Basha High
Warehouse Dedication
Diana Messersmith has been an employee of the Chandler Unified School District for more than 30 years. She started the warehouse with a staff of one. At that time, Chandler School District had 12 schools to service, eventually growing to a capacity of where she and her staff were responsible for providing supplies and service to 45 schools and numerous support sites. Also, under her supervision, the warehouse staff facilitates the processing and delivery of approximately 5,000 orders annually. Nearly 70% of all purchase orders are processed and delivered through the district warehouse. Diana was also responsible for overseeing the mailing department and has implemented a process that resulted in annual fiscal savings
