COVID-19 Vaccine Update
Updated COVID-19 Symptom Decision Tree
A frequent question recently has been when will teachers and staff be vaccinated. Our staff currently working in health care roles have already been able to access vaccinations and several are set to get their second dose next week. All other district staff are in the next tier of Phase 1B. This essentially opens after the current 65 and older tier.
We expect the tier of Phase 1B to open soon, however, we know the availability of the vaccine and limited people to be vaccinators are delaying the process. People are also needed as support people to work the various hubs/stations. The County is in dire need of nurses, EMTs, doctors, etc. to be a part of this important community effort. Information about how to help can be found here.
We are seeing positive evidence of protocols helping to reduce the potential for spread on campuses. The number of positive cases in the district has decreased and the number of those cases that needed cohorts/classrooms to quarantine was far less. It is clear that families are following public health guidance with keeping students home when they see symptoms or if there has been an exposure at home. Thank you to all of our families!
Please look for updated information next week about Phase 3 and EUSD's alignment to the new California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Consolidated Framework for Schools.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Updated COVID-19 Symptom Decision Tree
Earlier this week, Maria Waskin, the Executive Director of the Student Services Department, shared the following update to district families and staff. We wanted to include this information again in our weekly newsletter for those who may not have had the opportunity to review the earlier notification.
The COVID-19 Symptom Decision Tree has been updated by the San Diego County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA). Please click here or on the photo below. The principle change affecting our practices is that individuals who have exhibited symptoms may now return to school after 24 hours fever free (without medication), improving symptoms AND proof of a COVID-19 negative PCR test result. The former timeline was 72 hours. A negative antigen or rapid test result will not be sufficient to allow re-entry to school under these conditions. Families or individuals may wish to obtain an antigen or rapid test for more rapid results, but the PCR test will be required for return to school after 24 hours with no fever and improving symptoms.
Please see the link to the revised Parent/Staff COVID-19 Return to School Guidance for additional information.
