Earthquakes PBL

During our Earthquakes unit, the purpose of this project was to build a house for Tony Stark that would stay up during an earthquake. The driving question was: How can we, as structual engineers, construct a two story house for Tony Stark that will withstand seismic activity? The materials we used to build this house were clay, string, popsicle sticks, toothpicks and straws. I learned that in order to make this house successful, you had to do a lot of research, have a firm base, and make sure that it is straight.

30 Hands Project

We did this project during our Atmosphere unit. The purpose of it was to inform the watcher about the atmosphere and greenhouse gases. I enjoyed making the Pic Collage slides for the video, amd I also enjoyed putting the whole thing together. I learned that the atmosphere has five different layers, and each of them have different purposes.

My Favorite Unit

My favorite unit was Energy and Material Resources because I learned about all of the different energies that come from different things. I learned about renewable and nonrenewable resources, which we get our energy from. Nonrenewable resources are things like coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear energy. Renewable resources are things like the sun, wind, hydroelectric water, tides, biomass fuels, and geothermal energy. My favorite activity with this unit was the invention convention project that we had to do. Those are the reasons why I like this unit.

Invention Convention

We did this project during our Energy and Material Resources unit. The point of this project was to create something that would help an environmental problem, but it had to be made of recycled items and it had to be powered by a renewable resource. The item that my team created was fake turtle that ate and spit out trash from the ocean. It is powered by the sun, so it has a solar panel on it. Inside of the turtle, there is a big tank that holds the trash that it eats, and there is also a compressor that compresses large amounts of trash into tiny squares so that the tank can fit a lot of trash inside of it. That is our invention convention.
