Message from the Office!
Dear Parents,
Please remember that all students who wish to leave the school grounds during the lunch hour only, must have a paper copy of the Permission to Leave School Grounds letter ready to present to the office. Emailed letters or text messages will not be accepted. (see attached letter below)
It is imperative that we know where our students are at all times for their safety. Because of this, unfortunately, we cannot accept one note to give them permission for the entire school year. We appreciate the support of our parents in making the importance of these rules made to your children and how it is a question of safety.
We are pleased to announce that there is still spots available to enroll your child into the Performing Arts program being offered at École OLPH for the 2019-2020 school year!!! More information below.
Please find attached below the Performing Arts Program Information and Application Form. Should you have any questions, please contact M. Marc St. Jean at marcs@eics.ab.ca or 780-467-5631.

OLPH Parish ~ 2019 Vacation Bible Camp
Come join our team of Volunteers at this summer’s OLPH's Vacation Bible Camp
The OLPH parish community is looking for adults or older youth (grade 9 and up) to act as leaders at camp this summer.
Perhaps you know someone who is studying to be a teacher, or there is a fantastic student teacher in your school community who might be keen to join us? Many new teachers come through our summer bible camp and gain valuable teaching experience and make connections within our parish. We would welcome their talent and expertise as our camp is run exclusively by volunteers each summer. While it is a gift of your time and energy to help lead, I can assure you it is also an opportunity to deepen your faith as we create a meaningful faith experience for the youth who come to camp.
Vacation Bible Camp July 8th-12th, 9:00-12:30 pm
Group Leaders duties : Teach a bible story with your group of children and take them through each station. Leaders are needed for students who have finished grade 2, 3,4 and 5 this summer.
Snack Leader duties: Preparation of snack each day, supervise youth helpers in the kitchen.
Decorating Leader duties: Assist Coordinator overseeing youth as they set up and decorate the week before camp - July 2-5th.
Games Leader duties: Lead children in games everyday. This can be a student or adult leader.
Student Youth Volunteers: Finished Grade 6 and up. Youth volunteers set up the week before camp July 2-5th and then during camp week they help out in crafts, games, snacks or work as an assistant with a specific age group.
If you think you are interested or if you know someone who is please contact Laurie McGee @ olphbiblecamp@gmail.com
P.S. Registration for our camp participants starts April 27. It is an amazing $60 for the week which includes daily snacks and crafts.
God Bless

Talking with Your Teen about Vaping!!!
Dear OLPH Parents,
A couple of weeks ago, EICS and OLPH hosted a parent presentation on vaping. There was a lot of information offered and I certainly learned plenty.
A couple of the outstanding takeaway messages were how unregulated vapes/ecigs/modes and their "juices" are and what the serious short term side effects are of youth vaping. The industry is ever-evolving and what we are learning is how important it is to talk to our children (as young as grade 6) about drugs, peer influences and common myths about vaping (ie: it is a healthier option compared to cigarettes).
By opening the conversation in a non-judgmental way, our children/youth know that we are a trustworthy place for them to come to. Parents and other trusting family members are such a crucial part of the formula of this conversation. Attached is some tips for starting this conversation. (see picture below).
If you are wanting to know more information on vaping, feel free to contact Mme Moniz at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca or directly at OLPH school.
Thanks,
Mme Simone Moniz

Support Offered!!!
Hello École OLPH Parents,
It certainly takes a village to raise a child, but sometimes it can be overwhelming to know who to reach out to in times of support or to even brush up on some skills.
Strathcona County Family and Community Services hosts many free parenting sessions on a variety of things and how parents can support their children/teens. Topics include test anxiety, resiliency and the ever-evolving parent-teen relationship (Connect Parent).
I highly recommend many of these sessions. If you have any questions or clarifications around these supports, please feel free to follow up with me at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca
But in the meantime, take a browse at some of the sessions:
Thanks,

Building Resiliency!
Hello Parents,
EICS and our schools are in midst of a lot of change!
Change can be stressful but it is also can be an adventure. How do we make this shift? How do we as adults support change/transition and the stress that comes with it to our children? Next year, we acknowledge that EPK's grade 4's will be naturally transitioning to OLPH, but also, OLPH will be shifting to a dual stream school.
On May 6th, EICS is hosting a parent presentation on building resiliency through change and we'd like to welcome you. Please see attached for more details.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to follow up with Mme Simone Moniz at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca.

Sacraments Dates
As the dates get closer for the celebration of the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation get closer, I have received a number of phone calls from parents who are concerned because they have “missed the chance to register their child.”
The preparation time for these sacraments is complete for this 2018-2019 year BUT you have NOT “missed” the chance for your child to celebrate these sacraments.
Please join us in the fall of 2019 ~ I promise they will not be the only child in grade 3 or 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion nor will they be the only child older than grade 6 preparing for Confirmation!
Nothing has been “missed” and what has been gained is the opportunity to prepare your child in a way that is unrushed and meaningful for both of you.
Please watch the Parish website at www.olph.ca under sacraments for our updates on sacrament information.
The registration dates in the fall are Monday, September 23 at 7:00pm at OLPH Parish for First Reconciliation and First Communion and Monday September 30 at 7:00pm at OLPH Parish for Confirmation.
We look forward to meeting you and your children in the fall! If you have any question please contact Raylene at 780-467-5470 or at ryuzyk@olph.ca.

Prayer for April ~ Act of Adoration!!!
In this Act of Adoration, we thank Christ for His continued presence among us, not just through His grace but physically, in the Holy Eucharist. His Body is the Bread of Angels, offered for our strength and salvation.
O most sacred, most loving heart of Jesus, Thou art concealed in the Holy Eucharist, and Thou beatest for us still. Now as then Thou sayest, "With desire I have desired." I worship Thee, then, with all my best love and awe, with my fervent affection, with my most subdued, most resolved will. O make my heart beat with Thy heart. Purify it of all that is earthly, all that is proud and sensual, all that is hard and cruel, of all perversity, of all disorder, of all deadness. So fill it with Thee, that neither the events of the day nor the circumstances of the time may have power to ruffle it; but that in Thy love and Thy fear it may have peace.
Amen.

Reminder - Grade 8 Farewell - Student Pictures
In preparation for the Grade 8 Farewell which will be held on Friday, June 14th at OLPH Church from 6-9:30 pm, we are requesting ONE “baby” photo (0-2 years of age) and ONE current photo of each grade 8 student to be used in the powerpoint presentation during the evening. (After Farewell, each student will be forwarded the presentation for their memories.)
In addition, if you have any photos of the students from their elementary day, please email those to me as well.
These photos may be brought to the school in paper format (whereupon they will be scanned and returned), or they may be sent in digital format to deniseg@eics.ab.ca. If they are attached to a photo album, please do not remove them from the page as I can scan and crop them.
Please send the two photos to school by Jan. 18th at the latest.
Thank you so much in advance for your cooperation, and I wish everyone has a safe, blessed and Merry Christmas with their family and friends.
Blessings,
Mme Denise Gagnon
FundScrip Fundraising
Dear Parents,
OLPH School Council has been using FundScrip for the last 5 years as one of the schools main fundraisers.
FundScrip, is a fundraising program that lets you raise funds simply by purchasing gift cards for your everyday shopping (i.e. groceries, gas, gifts and household items). When you purchase a $100 grocery gift card, you receive the $100 card, but in addition, a percentage is donated to our fundraising campaign. It’s like getting free money, where the only catch is you have to change your method of payment to using gift cards!
