Hoosier Indy - September 2020
A Note From Your Principal
We are finally settling into a routine here at Hoosier Academy! Students are learning, teachers are learning individual needs and creating lessons to meet them, and everyone is excited to be getting into a schedule!
Please make note of the new attendance line and email where you can report absences, medical appointments or address other attendance concerns.
Also, please remember that the best way to get help with your computer, or curriculum materials is to submit a case ticket to www.help.k12.com/s/submit-a-case. This will give you a confirmation/ticket number that you can reference when communicating with staff regarding issues that may prevent your student from completing assignments/logging into class.
As always please reach out to any of us (your teachers, advisor, counselor, myself) with any concerns or questions you may have! We are here to serve you!
Mrs. Randi Tolentino, Hoosier Indy Principal
The Power of Yet
What does it mean to educate the "whole child"? This has been the essential question of our staff’s Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Professional Learning Community (PLC). Our team completed professional development during their first week back to school to help us understand that educating the whole child is not just teaching them the Indiana standards or national standards associated with our core curriculum, but teaching and supporting both behavioral and emotional needs. As you can imagine, the need for social and emotional support has grown tremendously with the onset of the pandemic. To learn more about MTSS, please click on the following link.
In the weeks to come, our team will begin reviewing your student's first six weeks of performance and will determine if your student is in need of additional literacy, math, or behavioral/emotional support. Think of this as a menu of interventions that our teachers can refer to and select the best option for your student's need based upon the individual student's data.
This work goes hand in hand with our staff developing a growth mindset. Please take some time to view The Power of Yet video. Take the MTSS Challenge! Please send me an email at jasilver@k12.com to let me know that you are receiving our newsletters and your reaction to The Power of Yet video.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Janice Silver, Head of Schools
