Italian Flag
The Italian flag was adopted on June 19, 1946. The flag was inspired by the French flag which was brought to Italy by Napoleon in 1792.
Climate
The climate varies by each region. The winters are cold and rainy but cool in Rome. Summers in the South can be very hot, up to 140°F. The rest of the country experience average summers.
Language & Religion
Italian is the official language, but the dialects are different from city to city. English is the second most common language which most young kids learn to speak. Older generations are more likely known to speak French. a majority of Italy's population are Roman Catholics, 80% of the population are Catholics. Italians do not always live according to the Catholic rules but the Catholic Church is respected. A small percentage of the population are Protestant, Jewish or Muslim.
Housing
A large percentage of families own homes. Some families stay their whole lives in a rented apartment. Most families own large villas. Th villas are usually brick structures covered with white or cream colored plaster, topped with a Mediterranean red tiled roof. Some villas often contain several units, where various generations of the same family live.
