How to Play An E Chord on a Guitar
By Braxton
Step One: How To Hold The Guitar Properly
- Put the big part (the body) on your left leg
- Put your left hand on the neck
- Put your thumb on the back of the long part (the neck)
- Curve your hand to the the front of the neck
- Put your right arm over the body so you can touch the strings
Step Two: Understanding the Guitar
- Look at the strings from thickest to thinnest, they are called the: E,A,D,G,B and E strings (Hint: from the bottom up - "Elvis Buys Gooey Donuts At Earls")
- Look at the space between the tiny metal bars on the neck, that is called a fret
Step Three: Fingering
- Put your index finger on the top fret of the G string ( the 4th thickest string) then push down so the string touches the wood and remember, keep your thumb on the back of the neck
- Put your ring finger on the second fret of the D string (the 3rd thickest string) then push down
- Put your middle finger on the second fret of the A string ( the 2nd thickest string) then push down
- Stop Pushing down on the strings but keep your fingers were they areand give your self a break
Step Four: Plucking
- Put your pick on the thickest (low E) string
- Stroke down passing the thinnest (high E) string a little bit
Step Five: Putting It All Together
Now add the fingering step to the plucking step, pressing down on the strings while putting your thumb on the back of the neck, and you'll be playing the E chord easily
in no time (if you practice)!
