Weekly Assessment Data
Thank you for submitting your weekly assessment data. I want to clarify the expectations for the plan of action. In the plan of action, I am asking you to specifically identify what you are going to do to address the deficiencies shown in the data. Statements such as reteach, or review in small group does not tell me exactly how you will address the deficiency. I am looking or a strategy or activity you will use to help the scholars understand the concept. This requires that you dig a little deeper and identify the exact problem or misconception. For example, in math, is the scholar struggling with computation? What computation strategy can you teach the scholar to help him/her? Does the scholar need the use of a number line or manipulatives? If a scholar is struggling with basic computation, I might put in my plan of action, Teach and reinforce the use of Touch Math. This is a strategy I chose to teach the scholars to help increase their computation skills. Is the scholar struggling with word problems? Is it the math skill or a reading skill? How or what will you teach the scholar to help them improve in this skill? In reading, can you use a different technique or manipulative to help solidify a concept? Provide 1-2 strategies or techniques you will be using with the scholars. Be specific. Depending on your plan, you may reinforce the same technique for more than 1 week depending on what is being taught and assessed. I do not necessarily expect a different strategy each week for the same standard(s). However, if you have truly implemented the strategy listed and little to no progress is being made, you need to change what you are doing. This is best practice.
The intention of this task is not just for compliance. I feel like a lot of what I am receiving from you is just that..... compliance. The goal of this is for you to truly take the time to review your scholars' progress and make instructional decisions to improve their academic achievement and growth. It is not a task designed to give you one more thing to do. This task helps you to become a stronger teacher and in turn help your scholars achieve more. It also helps me to understand what you are trying in your classroom and whether or not your instruction is effective. Reviewing your data and making instructional decisions also falls under Assessment Uses, in TKES. Please take the time to use the tool and make instructional decisions, not just submit it because I have asked for it. See the resources below for help. I also have resources available in my office for you to borrow.
