Update #4: 9.11.14
Hello, families!
Just a quick reminder that the MC teachers are in the faculty office in 5-112 every morning from 8:30 until class starts, ready to help students with MC assignments, college assignments, college applications, or whatever support they might need. Our new location is tucked away and off the beaten track, but we are still here and accessible to students every day.
Back to School Night/Parent Meeting
We will hold BTS from 6:30-7:15pm on Friday, September 26. Each teacher will provide a brief overview of her curriculum. Following our presentations, Julie DeBona is hosting a Parent Meeting from 7:30-8:30. We hope to see you there. You should have received the invitation from Chris Brandin earlier today.
College Readiness Workbook
http://www.ucop.edu/education-partnerships/_files/calendar_1112_eng.pdf
This great little guide explains to students and families how to meet college eligibility requirements. It is exactly what we’ve been covering in our CCR classes. It includes a four year academic plan, financial aid information, a glossary of common terms, and links to online resources. This was published a couple of years ago and most of the information is the same; the cost to attend has changed (increased) and now only the top 9% of each school's graduating class is eligible for UC.
Juniors
The PSAT will be administered at Middle College on Wednesday, Oct. 15 during our MC class time. Chris Brandin will send out more information soon.
Seniors
Jen B has started college applications in the CCR class, and Halo is helping students decide where they should consider applying. You’ll notice that your seniors are getting a little stressed out about applications. We’re here to help :-)
Seniors still have several opportunities to take the SAT or ACT for college applications. The next opportunity to register for the SAT is Oct. 11 (registration due Sept 12 TOMORROW); the next opportunity to register for the ACT is Oct 25 (registration due Sept 19).

All MC teachers are posting daily agendas for our classes — simply click on the calendars for the different courses and you can monitor what we are doing each day.
If students are absent, they should check the calendar to see what they missed.

Guest Speakers
We’re still looking for guest speakers who are willing to talk to our students about their jobs, how they began their careers, and the pathways they took (education, training, etc.). If you, or someone you know, is able to talk to our classes, please let me know. We’re hoping to schedule guest speakers in our first time block (12:30-1:20)
Tell Me About Your Student
Thank you to those of you who filled out my parent questionnaire. I enjoyed learning more about your student. You can still fill out this questionnaire if you'd like to tell me more about her or him.
We’re looking forward to ending our week tomorrow with time for students to socialize and get to know one another. Juniors are bringing snacks this time.
Thank you for entrusting such wonderful students to us! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. And have a wonderful weekend!
