Weekly Wildcat
October 7, 2022
Hello Wildcat Families,
Our book fair was a huge success thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers for organizing the daily class visits and opening our book fair before and after school. We have an exciting month of activities and events planned for your Wildcat(s). Students will engage in digital literacy lessons during Digital Citizenship Week beginning on October 17th. We also have some exciting STEAM lessons planned for Red Ribbon Week. Our PAC section includes information about how Girl Scout 3945 transformed our school garden, raffle winners from two school events, our new Math Olypiad program, and much more!
Helpful Information:
- School Site Council: Join us for our next SSC meeting to discuss our school goals. Click here to access the agenda.
- Arrival/Dismissal: We need support with arrival/dismissal procedures. Please sign-up here to assist 1 or more days per week.
- California Healthy Kids Survey: All 5th graders, staff, and families are invited to take the CHKS beginning on October 24th.
- Please complete: Although school meals are now free to all students under California’s new Universal Meals Program, the application for free and reduced-price meals is still very important. School funding depends in part on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. With all students now eating for free, fewer families are completing the application and schools are at risk of losing funds. Household income information is confidential and applying online is quick and easy. Plus, students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may also qualify for discounts on transportation, ESS, SAT and AP tests, home internet, and college application fees. Apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or pick up a paper application in the school office.

- Dismissal Reminders: If you are using the drop-off lane, please remain in your car. TK/K families are strongly encouraged to walk to the kindergarten gate at dismissal. Continue to move your car forward to the orange cone in front of our campus during arrival and dismissal.
- Halloween Parade: Save the date for our annual parade on 10/31 at 8:00am. Join us on in front of the school in the parking lot. Students may wear masks during the parade only. Weapons, accessories, and excessive gore/blood are not permitted (flyer included below)
Have a nice weekend,

We are excited to share two recent projects that benefit Sundance and our students completed by the community.
Back Pack Solution for Select Classrooms!
Thank you to Mike Basa, a former Sundance parent and neighbor for building 5 new backpack racks for use by the following classrooms: Bartel, de Los Santos, Hatch, Hinchmann, and Levenson. Mr. Basa designed and built the backpack racks with the costs funded by the Foundation and your donations. Thank you to Jacque Benton for organizing the project for the school.
Sundance Garden Project
Girl Scout Troop 3945 put their service work to action by completely revamping the Sundance Garden. The project consisted of months of pre-planning through observation, determining a root cause to an issue they could solve for, making a plan, and executing. All 10 girls volunteered their time to complete repairs, purchase and plant new flowers, pull weeds, construct a scarecrow, paint planters and the bench, sand down the stumps, and trim back existing plants. By completing this work, they have earned the Bronze Award - the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. This troop is now in 6th grade at Mesa Verde, but all have attended Sundance among various elementary years and were thrilled to give back to their school and community.
