FAFSA and College Focus Talks
We have ASU Beebe office of admissions and financial aid representatives scheduled to speak to seniors this Wednesday. ALL seniors are expected to attend the session in the Loft during their Eng class on Wednesday.
October is college application month in Arkansas and we want to ensure that ALL of our seniors are on track and making progress toward their Next Step goals! If college or a technical school is not your Next Step goal, you will still benefit from hearing about this process as your goals may change over the next few months.
The topic of the sessions will focus on college applications, FAFSA, and scholarship info, timelines, and opportunities. This will not be a focus on applying to ASU Beebe specifically, but on the overall process that is applicable to any post-secondary institution.
Just outside the Loft, there will be a representative from UCA (from 8:15 - 10:00am) as well as a representative from UALR (from 8:00am - 12:30pm) available to assist seniors with the application process for their respective schools. Both of these reps will have application fee waivers for any senior who submits their application on this date. Seniors, you can complete the majority of the application prior to speaking with the rep and then simply have the rep provide the code needed to finalize your application on Wednesday. If you have Eng in the afternoon, you will need to find time to talk to the UCA or UALR rep during the time they are on campus.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions,
Mrs. Gatewood

3. FAFSA & AR Academic Challenge Scholarship Help
During Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday and Thursday, a representative from UCA, ASU-Beebe and possibly UALR will be at CHS from 3:00 - 6:00 to answer questions and offer assistance with the FAFSA and AR Academic Challenge Applications. To get the most help and receive the best advice and assistance, you are advised to start the application process before you come to CHS for help on Tuesday or Thursday. If you can review the sections of both applications beforehand, you will be able to ask questions for your specific situation and have an idea of the documents you will need to bring with you. If you are interested in attending the FAFSA and AR Academic Challenge Scholarship help session on Tuesday or Thursday of next week, please click on the link below and answer a few quick questions. Your responses will help the CHS Counseling Center prepare for this event.

4. Cap and Gown/Senior Memorabilia
Representatives from Jostens will be at CHS on Oct. 25 to present information about caps and gowns, invitations, and other senior memorabilia items during the school day. Jostens will return to CHS on November 4 & 5 from 8:00 pm to 4:00 pm to take orders and payment information. All balances must be paid for before students receive their items. Students must not owe any money in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. Please encourage your student to order what he/she wants, but not more than can be afforded. Any student who can not afford to purchase a cap and gown should contact their counselor or Mrs. Beason.
5. Email Address
Seniors should NOT use his/her Cabot School email address/account when applying for colleges, universities, vocational schools, student aid and/or scholarships. Cabot School email accounts will be deactivated once a student graduates from Cabot High School. Students need a permanent, appropriate email account that can be used all through their college years and beyond.
6. Transcripts
In order for a transcript to be sent to a college/university a student must come to the CHS Counseling Center and fill out the appropriate form. The most transcripts are sent electronically. Immunization records will be mailed separately as they are not a part of a student's electronic transcript. Students do not need to email his/her counselor to request a transcript. They should simply come to the CHS Counseling Center and fill out a transcript request form.
7. Wall of Acceptance
Students are encouraged to bring a copy of his/her college/university/vocational school acceptance letter to Mrs. Angela Beason in room 1115. These letters will be added to a wall in the CHS hallway. For every acceptance letter received, the student's name will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the school year. Please cross out personal information (address, test scores, Student ID, etc).

CHS Check Out Policy
CHS students will be allowed to check out with a parent/guardian note only. A parent/guardian phone number will need to be included on the checkout note for verification purposes.
***No phone call checkouts will be allowed because of safety concerns.
CHS is a closed campus and we strongly discourage students from checking out at lunch. This typically causes unnecessary tardies and classroom interruptions. If a student is checking out at lunch, a parent/guardian must physically come in and sign the student out and them back in from lunch.
Only a parent/guardian is allowed to drop lunch off for a student. If a parent/guardian is dropping off lunch for a student, there will be a table (outside the office) with a sharpie for the students name to be written on it. Students should know in advance that lunch is being dropped off to them.
