September School Counseling Classroom Lessons-Meet the School Counselor and Make Your Mark

As part of a comprehensive school counseling program, all students will receive lessons taught by me. I will teach all students at least one time a month by coming into their homeroom. This month we focused on introducing the role of a school counselor and how to "Make your Mark" at school.

What else does a school counselor do?

School counselors also teach small groups. Topics often include friendship, social skills, school success skills, family changes, and how to manage strong feelings. More information will be shared in October.

I also meet with students individually for any number of topics. Like I tell our students, if it a concern that is truly getting in the way of your learning and being your best, we can work on it together. Teachers, parents and students (self) may refer. Please contact me if you have concerns about your child.

I also can be a source of referrals and other community resources.

Meet Oak Crest's School Counselor

Hi! My name is Lisa Treml and I am proud be Oak Crest's school counselor. I have worked in Belle Plaine since February 2003 and since Oak Crest opened in 2007. I truly appreciate working with the 500+ incredible students of OC, caring parents and families, and a top-notch staff.

I grew up in Southern Minnesota on a dairy farm. I graduated from St. Cloud State with a degree in Psychology and graduated from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities with a Master's degree in Educational Psychology, School Counseling Program. I've been married to my husband for 17 years and we have 2 wonderful children who are in 3rd grade and 6th grade. So parents, I'm walking the tween, preteen journey right beside you! They keep us very busy so after school and on weekends I can often be found on football fields, softball/baseball fields, gyms and near wrestling mats.
