Warrior News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
AUGUST 30, 2019
Greetings Warrior Families and Students,
We hope that you are as excited as we are to kick off the 2019-20 school year!
MHS was a busy place this summer. Our teaching staff has worked tirelessly with curriculum work, innovative lesson planning, and integration of technology to help us fully live our mission of Every Student, Learning, Growing… Succeeding.
Our custodial staff and grounds crew also worked hard to ensure that our facilities, classrooms, and hallways shine like new. We have also added some awesome new student images in our hallways along with some visual reminders about the Warriors Way. However, as good as things look, it is empty without the energy and enthusiasm of our students!
Have a great Labor Day weekend and we’ll see you soon.
Go Warriors!

Student Drop-Off
We recommend Doors 10 and 16 as drop off locations for our families who drive their students to MHS. Our main entrance, Door 1, has very limited space and traffic can back up onto Racine Ave. Additionally, parents often find it difficult to re-enter traffic onto Racine Ave. Utilizing Door 10 or 16 still provides close access for students and Woods Road is typically much easier/safer for families as they exit. Thank you in advance for your support.
Bus Route Information
Reminder that all bus route information is now available via Infinite Campus. Please be sure to check pick up and drop off times prior to Tuesday.
Welcome Back Assembly
New for 2019, Student Council will be running a short assembly between 2nd and 3rd hour classes. The focus of the assembly will be on getting connected, making the most of your high school experience, and living like a Warrior.
MHS Club Fair
On Friday September 6th, MHS will be hosting our inaugural club fair in the North Gym. The fair will be run by MHS student organizations and can be accessed during the entire day. Our goal is to ensure that all students are aware of and have the opportunity to join in a co-curricular opportunity. Our data tells a very clear story that students who get connected perform better academically. Please join us in encouraging your student to get connected!
All School Test Day
We are excited to have a Fall Testing Day on September 10, 2019 for all 9th-11th graders. The Pre-ACT and Practice ACT will provide useful information to help your child choose the right high school courses, identify areas of strength and growth, and be foundational in the process of creating a long-term academic and career plan to meet your student’s goals. MHS staff are excited to be partners in this process. Upon the completion of the testing, time will be dedicated by staff to help students understand their results and set meaningful goals. Warrior Welcome
In hopes to continue to build strong partnerships with our families, we would like to remind you about the upcoming Warriors Welcome Night. This event will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, and will begin promptly at 5:30 in the PAC. After a brief introduction and explanation of the event, families will walk through their student's entire schedule. Classes will be 10 minutes long with a 5 minute passing period. While in class, you will hear teachers share a summary of the course expectations, supports available, and how to stay informed about the academic progress of your student.
This event is intended for parents/guardians. Students are not required to come but are welcomed as well. The event will conclude by 7 p.m. Please be sure to have your student's schedule loaded on your mobile device or bring a printed copy. If you have any questions please call the MHS office.

PSAT for Juniors
The PSAT is for students who will be going on to take the SAT, which may be required for some out of state schools. A complete list of U.S. Colleges that use the SAT results can be found on the College Board website. Students may also take the PSAT to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship if their scores qualify for recognition into the program. More information about this scholarship can be found at nationalmerit.org. Your student will also have an opportunity to take the Practice ACT for free on September 10th. Students must register for the PSAT in Student Services by Wednesday, September 25th. The exam has a $17 fee that will be added to the student’s account at the time of registration.
Cell Phone Use & Digital Citizenship
A focus at our school this year is on improving digital citizenship, which includes the appropriate use of cell phones during the school day. In an effort to increase student engagement and promote a positive learning environment, MHS has increased its focus on appropriate cell phone use during school hours. Providing guidelines for responsible cell phone use promotes classroom engagement, encourages academic honesty, and develops positive classroom and social interactions. For more information, review the Policy 5136 - Personal Communication Device.
