Grady College Career Report
2016-2017 Review
Greetings from the Grady Career Consultant!
Grady College Faculty and Staff:
I have so enjoyed serving as the Grady College Career Consultant for another academic year. I have appreciated all of the times you have collaborated with me on events, included me in Grady College activities, encouraged students to meet with me and invited me to speak to your students in classrooms and student organizations.
I wanted to take the time to review what Grady College career services looked like for the 2016-2017 year. I have included some highlights, such as the highest student attendance at the Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day to date and Grady College’s high Career Outcomes rate and response rate for the class of 2016.
I am looking forward to continuing and strengthening my collaborations and relationships within Grady College for the upcoming academic year. In this email, I have included some main ways I envision being able to collaborate more with faculty and staff.
Thank you for taking the time to review this information, and please let me know if you have any questions! I can be reached at sam610@uga.edu.
Best,
Samantha Meyer

Career Center Services and Events
The following data displays the number of Grady students who have participated in UGA Career Center services and events from August 11, 2016 to May 11, 2017.
*Grady Outreach Events: Classified to be any event with current students where I introduce myself as the Grady College career consultant and/or explain Career Center services available to Grady students
*Grady College Programs include: Grady Resume Critique Days, Career Day preparation events, and Career Center programming targeted toward Grady College students
Career Consultant Satisfaction Survey
After each in-office appointment, students are emailed a consultant satisfaction survey. Based on this year's surveys, 100% of Grady students who had an in-office appointment with me indicated that they were satisfied or very satisfied with their overall experience. Of the students surveyed, 100% agreed that they would recommend other students visit the Career Center. Please feel free to refer any students to me, should they need career assistance.
Partnering with Faculty in the Future
Classroom Presentations
Faculty and staff can request in-class presentations on a variety of career-related topics. This can be especially helpful for faculty and staff who know they will be out of town on certain dates throughout the semester, though I am happy to do classroom presentations at any time.
Career topics that would be beneficial for Grady students are: digital portfolios, resumes and/or creative resumes, cover letter development, preparation for ADPR Connection during fall semester, job searching in the communications industry, internship searching in the communications industry (especially in the fall), LinkedIn networking, career paths related to their majors. Additional general career topics I could present on include networking, interviewing, professionalism and social media and the job search.
In an Fall 2016 survey of Grady and pre-Grady students, participants reported classroom presentations as one of their preferred ways of receiving career-related information.
To schedule an in-class presentation, please email Samantha Meyer at sam610@uga.edu. Please plan to schedule at least 3 weeks in advance.
Student Organization Presentations
If you advise a student organization, please feel free to reach out to me or encourage your executive boards to reach out to me while they are planning their semester schedules.
I can be reached at sam610@uga.edu. Please plan to schedule at least 3 weeks in advance.

Career Center/Grady College Collaborations
2017 Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day
The Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day connects Grady students and employers annually. It is a joint effort between the Career Center and Grady College, along with our event partner, the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. This year, Kelvin Rutledge, Luke Story of the GAB, and I worked closely to plan the event.
The 2017 Journalism and Mass Communication Career Fair was a great success! Students and employers alike enjoyed the opportunity to connect with one another. There was a great turnout, with 53 employers registered and 392 UGA students and alumni, the highest student engagement to date. For detailed information, please see this additional report.
We are always looking to expand this event and ensure our students are fully prepared. If you know of an employer interested in attending next year, or would like me to speak with your students to help prepare them for this event, please reach out to me.
Additional Collaborations
The purpose of the Career Outcomes Survey is to provide insight into the employment status or continuing education plans for University of Georgia graduates (Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate) within an average of six months of their graduation date. Additionally, the survey provides detailed salary statistics and graduate school information on most majors at UGA. Check here for data by college and by major.
The Class of 2016 Career Outcomes data shows a 91% response rate, and 96% of job-seeking Grady graduates finding employment. The data was gathered from December 2015, May 2016 and August 2016 graduates.
Grady College has the second-highest response rate at the University of Georgia, tied with the College of Pharmacy and just 5% below College of Veterinary Medicine.
If you would like more information or have any questions, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help in promoting the UGA Career Outcomes Survey to graduating or recently graduated students in coming semesters! The survey can be found here.
