Oregon Statewide Assessments
Each year, schools are required to participate in administering the Oregon Statewide Assessments. These tests include Math and English Language Arts (Grades 3-8 and 11), Science (Grades 5, 8 and 11), ELPA (Eligible students only) and Extended Assessments (Eligible students only).
For Math and English Language Arts, parents may opt-out by preference. For exemptions for Science, ELPA21 or Extended assessments, they must be based on a disability or religious reason per the Oregon Dept. of Education and be approved by the District Test Coordinator.
Parents can find these forms on our district website: www.scappoosek12.org under For Parents>Curriculum/Instruction>State Assessments. Opt-out and Exemption forms must be filled out annually.

Limited visiting fans per host school discretion

Inclement Weather Information
As we are now moving into winter, we’d like to give you some information on where to find school closures, 2-hour late starts, and snow routes.
In the event of inclement weather conditions, the Scappoose School District will either start school with a 2-hour delay or completely cancel school. On 2-hour late starts busses will be delayed 2 hours. For example, if your child usually gets picked up at 7:35 am the bus should be at your stop at 9:35 am.
Snow route information can be found here.
If the weather does not improve within the 2-hour delay the remainder of the school day may be canceled. The decision to have a 2-hour delay or cancel school will be communicated through Scappoose School District’s School Messenger phone system. Each family with an active phone number will receive a call and email so if you miss the call you will be able to read the message in your email. Cancellation information will also be available via FlashAlert and your local news station.
· If school is canceled, all after-school activities are canceled.
· The decision to delay or cancel school will apply to every school in the Scappoose School District.
District website at www.scappoosek12.org
· For school closures and late starts
· Snow route information is on the district website under Departments. Click on Durham Bus Service in the drop-down menu.
· District App – Scappoose School District. The App can be downloaded for free at the AppStore or Google Play.
FlashAlert at www.flashalert.net
· You’ll need to go to this website and sign up for FlashAlert. This is one way to get the closure information as a text.Attendance Matters
Attendance really matters! We want your student to be here and on time. So, how many absences are needed for a student to be considered truant?
Exceeding five days absent, either excused and/or unexcused, in a three-month period may be a truancy violation.
Unexcused absences are a child safety issue. Someone should always know where the child is. Oregon state law says an equivalent of four unexcused days in a month may also be a truancy violation.
Days specifically excused by doctor’s notes are excluded from any count. The program is intended to be as flexible as each school wishes. The school staff may take into consideration the student’s school performance when determining necessary intervention.
What happens when a student is sent to truancy?
A truancy officer will visit with the parent or guardian at the student’s home. The officer will evaluate living conditions that could affect attendance and inform parents or guardians of the Oregon Compulsory School Attendance Law 39.010. The officer will give the parent or guardian a compliance notice to sign and return to the school. This initial step often improves student attendance without further contact.
Tardy Policy
Excessive tardies will be turned over to the administration for disciplinary action.
Tardy # 1: three unexcused tardies in any one class in one semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 2: any tardy from any other class in the same semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 3: the next tardy from any class in the same semester. Result is Saturday School.
Unexcused absences will result in In School Suspension.
