WORDS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
The activities director at Sunridge Assisted Living has invited our students to put on a parade for them on October 29th. It will be fun for our students to do something that feels normal for this time of year – put on a Halloween costume and be in a parade. The first parade will start at 9:30 and a second one will start at 2:00. Most of the participating classes chose the morning parade, with the rest participating in the afternoon. The residents will be outside on chairs and our kids will walk past them in the circular driveway. The students will receive a little treat at the end of the parade. Please watch for details from your children’s teachers regarding this day and activity. The walking route will be to start from the school going north on Arbor Way, we will then head east on Layton Parkway using the crosswalk to cross Angel, ending at the center. On the way back to the school, we will go south on Angel, cross the street at the light and then west on Weaver Lane.
Parents may desire to watch their children during this parade. We highly encourage parents to watch along the parade route, but not at Sunridge as that could potentially bring too many people to the facility where elderly people will be sitting to watch the students in their costumes. Parents can watch the students as they walk to or from the facility.
If your child will be walking in the parade and wearing a costume, please make sure it isn’t gory, gross, outrageous, or distracting. Students may not bring weapons even if they are part of their costume. Costume masks can be worn during the parade only, but not during the school day or walking to and from Sunridge. Of course, students will need to wear their face masks to curtail the spread of COVID throughout the whole parade process. Our goal is for the day to be fun and educational. We are due for a fun day, but not a crazy out of control day. Your children’s teachers can give you details specific to his or her classroom.
You may not know that we have monthly Community Council Meetings on the third Wednesday at 4:00. You don’t need to be a member of Community Council to attend and we welcome any who would like to join us. We have been meeting through Zoom and will have the link posted on our Heritage homepage at least a week before each meeting. Our next meeting is scheduled for November 18th. We look forward to welcoming any and all who would like to join us.
