High Lakes News

February 2016

Note from our Principal

We’ve got a busy couple of months ahead of us. All elementary schools went to a semester reporting system last year. Our first report card will be coming home with the children in a sealed envelope on Tuesday, February 9. This Friday, February 5 there is no school so teachers can prepare the report cards. Conferences are scheduled for the first week of March. You will be hearing from your children’s teachers next week to schedule those conferences. We work hard to try and schedule siblings back to back for your convenience. Please let the teachers know as soon as possible if the times they have scheduled will not work for you.

If you have 3rd, 4th or 5th graders in your house you no doubt have been hearing about Battle of the Books, which is being kicked off this week with our annual Battle Banquet. The competition between the 160+ participants will run through the middle of February. A huge thank you to Renee McCoy, our Media Manager, who is so creative in planning and organizing all of the festivities. Also, a thank you to the large number of parent volunteers who helped Renee in pulling off this extravaganza. It is one of the highlights of the entire year at High Lakes!

Our halls are starting to fill up with your generous contributions to this year’s food drive to help support Neighbor Impact. Last year High Lakes donated 3,000 pounds of food from our food drive and we are shooting for 4,000 pounds this year! The food drive will run through February 12th. Thank you so much for your support in our attempt to teach children about the importance of helping those in need.

If you know of families wishing to send their children to High Lakes next year, who live outside of our attendance area, they must fill out an Attendance Area Change Request form by 4:00 PM on March 1. If you are currently attending High Lakes on an Area Change Request, you do not need to fill out another form. Families will be contacted by June 1, 2016 with a decision on the request. Forms can be found on

Warmly,

Susan Heberlein
