December 2018
FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE
Because our students have asked for more time to prepare for exams and to not have four exams on one day, we have created a new schedule that will be implemented this year. ALL students will finish class on Thursday and Friday at 11am and will be dismissed from BHS at this time. Students driving, walking, or riding with a peer/guardian can leave directly at the 11am dismissal, and students riding a bus home will head to their bus at dismissal. Students will have the option of grabbing lunch in the main building cafe prior to leaving. The week of finals will have teacher "Office Hours" available for student support, so please reach out to a specific teacher if your student would to schedule a time.
Please remember that we do not offer early final exams, and attendance on these days is critical as final exams are worth 20% of your students' semester grades.
Reminder: In order to maintain the integrity of the testing environment, we will not be able to call into/or interrupt a classroom to get a student. Please do not schedule appointments for your student on December 18-21. Students are expected to remain in their classrooms for the duration of each period.

AP Exam Registration
Registration for the 2019 AP exams opens Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 6am and ends Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 11pm. Registration is online at: www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/150335
Students must answer all required questions to complete registration. Registration is not finalized until students have printed the PDF of the confirmation page that is provided at the end of registration. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.
This year each AP exam costs $98.00. Brownsburg High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Students who are receiving free or reduced lunch will receive exam waivers for their AP exams.
All students who are taking exams in Math, Science, and/or English will receive exam waivers from the Indiana Department of Education. The IDOE has committed to covering the costs of these exams for all students grades 9 – 12.
Here are the important dates for the registration process:
- Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 6:00 AM - Registration Begins
- Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 PM - Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $25 late fee per exam.
- Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 11:00 PM - Registration Ends
- Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00 PM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.
Please contact Mr. Brett Comer, bcomer@brownsburg.k12.in.us , if you have any questions.
Immunizations for Senior Year
Student Health – Immunization Requirements
Despite just having started our junior year, we cannot ignore that senior season is around the corner. If your junior is schedule to have a physical in the next few months, please discuss with your physician the timing of these required immunizations. Some insurances will not cover two physicals within twelve-month time span, and so you may need to get your student caught up on these shots now. Beginning in 2014, all students are required to update their vaccinations for grade 12.
Requirements are:
●Hepatitis A (2 doses) now required for grades 4, 6 and 12
●HPV has been added as a recommendation for grades 6-12
●Annual influenza has been added as a recommendation for all ages.
●Meningococcal MCV4 second dose is still a requirement for grade 12.
(Please note: Meningococcal Serogroup B (MenB) has remained a recommendation for grade 12.)
Please do not hesitate to contact our Clinic staff with any questions or concerns. They can be reached at (317) 852-2258 Ext. 1503 or by emailing relam@brownsburg.k12.in.us or mcarrel@brownsburg.k12.in.us

SAT/ACT Tests
For those planning to apply to colleges next year, it is very important to take the SAT and ACT this year. Juniors should not want to wait until next year to take the SAT or the ACT for the first time because college applications open up August 1. Colleges will accept either the SAT or the ACT- they do not require both. We recommend taking the test that includes the essay/writing part as some colleges may require the writing section. We also encourage students to take the SAT/ACT more than once because many colleges super-score.
Also take advantage of the send official score reports option to colleges when registering for the tests because most institutions require test scores to be sent from the testing companies and will not accept them off the transcript. It is best do this when registering for the test(s) rather than waiting until after your scores come back as fees for sending scores to colleges can add up.
Please see below for a list of SAT and ACT dates remaining this year. Visit www.act.org and www.sat.org for more information.

College Visits
We highly recommend scheduling college visits online with colleges of interest. It is best for students to really get a feel for the college campus. Juniors are allowed two college visit days throughout the year. The college visit form with a parent and counselor signature must be turned in to the team office prior to the visit. Students must also turn in documentation from the college following the visit for attendance purposes. The college visit form can be accessed from the BHS Guidance website at https://www.brownsburg.k12.in.us/bhs-guidance-home .
Naviance
Mrs. Mayo met with juniors earlier this fall and we want to encourage them to continue logging into Naviance to research colleges and careers. Student usernames are their Student ID#s and passwords are their 8-digit birthdays (no spaces or dashes). Students can access Naviance at https://student.naviance.com/brownhs and is also a link on the Guidance and Team 2020 website.
Naviance Test Prep
Remember that we have SAT Test Prep available in Naviance. The Naviance SAT Test Prep can be found on the home page of Naviance under “Resources to get ready.” We highly encourage students to take advantage of the SAT prep tool to prepare themselves for the SAT. A prep guide is available in Naviance in the section labeled “From My School.” Both the SAT and ACT websites have additional test prep resources available.
Resume Builder
Also available in Naviance is a resume builder. This can be found in the “About Me” tab within the “My Stuff” section. Not all college applications require a resume but there are some that do. This would be beneficial to have on hand before the senior year in case college applications ask for one. A resume builder guide is available on the home page of Naviance to help students get started. College applications include many components and more than just grades, GPA, test scores, and classes taken in high school. Several applications ask students to provide activities. We encourage students to get involved in activities they enjoy and/or will be beneficial for the field of study for which they have an interest.
Career Assessments
Naviance has the following career assessments available for students: Strengths Explorer, Career Interest Profiler, and Career Cluster Finder. These can be found in “My Assessments” within the “About Me” tab. The Career Interest Profiler and Career Cluster Finder can also be accessed from the “Careers” tab. An “Exploring Careers” guide is also available on the home page of Naviance to provide direction on the assessments.
College Searches
“The College Search Reference Guide” is another tool that serves as a great resource for students when searching colleges in the “Colleges” tab in Naviance. The college search guide is located on the home page of Naviance as well. It does a good job of explaining the Advanced College Search, SuperMatch, College Lookup, College Match, Scattergram, and much more when exploring college profile pages in Naviance. These are great tools to navigate through for planning for the senior year.
