Winter Break, Learners of the Month, & a Reminder About Winter Clothes

Just a reminder that this is a short week of school for both our in person and remote learners. Our winter break runs from December 23-January 3. Our first day back with learners is January 4 which is a full day of school.

This past Friday we were able to celebrate our November and December Learners of the Month. Congratulations to the following Bobcats for displaying the Nixon expectations of being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Part of the Team:

Aria C., Tony F., Paisley L., Samu R., Elicianna A., James D., Bryson B., Cambry F., Zuleyka P., Jenna G., King K., Ava N., Dillon G., Kyra W., Raiden L., Zoey P., Mila S., Alaiya A., Ralf B., Aubriana H., Kenan B., Isabelle G., Jaxon G., Robert F., Elliette M., Kaden R., Elijah B., Ryleigh G., Savanna K., Jahaii W., Jean Claude B., Jean Claude K., Ben G., Kareem I., Nat T., Payal B., Chandler B., Isabelle C., & Sammy N.

I also wanted to remind you about our winter weather expectations for outdoor recess:

  • We will have outdoor recess as long as the temperature is at least 10 degrees with the windchill.
  • We will not go out if it there is rain or freezing rain.
  • We will not allow learners to stay indoors for recess. All children will go out for recess when weather permits.
  • We will not go out if the playground is not plowed.
  • To play in the snow, learners must have boots, snow pants, and mittens/gloves.
  • We recommend a change of socks and pants to stay in the locker at school in case they get too wet.
  • Let your teacher know if you want to have the snow gear go back and forth between school and home. Please pack the gear in a separate bag/backpack as their main backpack will remain at school.
  • We will send snow gear home on weekends in case learners want to play outdoors over the weekends.

We hope all of you have a wonderful winter break--enjoy the extra time together, relax, and we will see you back in the new year!

Learners SMASHED Their December Goal!

Our Nixon in-person learners did an outstanding job these last few weeks earning Bobcat points for following our building expectations of being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Part of the Team. When staff see learners following expected behavior, we award them points through our online PBIS App. Our goal for December was to earn 16,000 points between December 1-21, and as you can see from the graph below, we smashed that goal and went above and beyond with our positive behaviors! Way to go Bobcats! I can't wait to celebrate with a movie and candy canes on Tuesday!

Family Reading Video

Please take about 15 minutes to review this video about how Nixon is working with learners to improve reading, the goals we have set as a building, and how you can support your children at home to help them meet our building goals.
