Mrs. Kirchner's 3rd Grade Leaders!
January 1, 2016
Welcome 2016!
I hope that your families have had time to relax and visit with family and friends. My battery has been recharged and I am anxious to get back to school. Hopefully, the spring weather will stick around the remainder of winter, so we can avoid any interruptions (snow days)! Plus, I am a powered by the sun!
Thank you!
Thank you for all the very thoughful gifts! I was very overwhelmed by your generosity! It was obvious how well they all know me by the gift choices! And yes, I have enjoyed most of the coffee, chocolate and other wonderful treats!
There are no words that can truly express my sincerest gratitude for your kindness!!
Lunch Menu
I do not have a copy of the menu, but once I know I will email it to you!

We used all the snacks that had accumulated in the cabinet the last couple weeks before break, so we are in need! I will bring snacks in on Monday, but I have listed names below for the rest of the week. Please let me know if you are unable to provide the snack on the day assigned (short notice). Reading Focus: Main Idea and Summarizing
This week, we will be continuing our focus on finding the main idea of a text. Next week, we will be using this information to begin summarizing a text. We started summarizing prior to the break, however I will be working with them in small groups to give them more support in learning how to do this skill with confidence.
Math Focus: Area and Mulitiplication
We will be working with arrays this weeks to begin our explorations of finding the area of a shape. Please keep practicing multiplication facts at home for fluency.
Writing: Informational
We are almost done with our first informational text this year. They will be researching a few questions they have about their topic. It is important that they learn the skills needed to research a topic, in order to write more about it. Next, week they will begin writing their final draft. We will be taking time to "celebrate" their writing with another 3rd grade class. I am eager to have them share their writing!
