A Message from Mrs. Douthart
Principal, Five Forks Middle School
Dear Five Forks Families,
As the principal of Five Forks, this is news that I hoped I would never hear. Honestly, while I knew it was a real possibility, my heart still hurt-for our kids, our staff, our families! I must admit that I had to take a moment to get myself together, but then I reminded myself that decisions are being made to help protect all of us. While this is a devastating decision, I sincerely hope that it will have a positive impact on curtailing the spread of Covid-19 to protect our community and our nation!
I am sad that our 8th graders left our school not knowing that it was to be their last time before making the leap to high school. I also can’t keep my mind off of those students who are probably anxious and wishing more than ever to see all of their teachers and return to the safe structure that their classrooms and our school provided them. My heart is also heavy for our FFMS staff who are trying to make sense of this news-not seeing their students or co-workers for the remainder of the year. We have quite the family here at Five Forks!
BUT I have great hope for what our teachers and students will accomplish as they finish out the rest of the year! Teachers and students (supported by you) will continue to learn and grow, and we will continue to focus on the core business of Gwinnett County Public Schools—teaching and learning. There will be bumps along the way, but if we partner together-we can do it!
Starting Monday, April 6th, we will resume Digital Learning. Remember, teachers will post assignments starting around 10:30am. Additionally, don’t forget about your connections classes! Be sure to ask your teachers if you need help. Please stay safe and healthy...and take those brain breaks when you need them!
For those of you wondering about picking up personal belongings from school, the status of yearbooks, field trips, and more—we are working through plans to take care of those loose ends. I’ll let you know, so stay tuned!
On a happy note, we put together a little “Picture Parade” video to show our students how much we love and miss them and to encourage them to do their very best moving forward. Please make sure they see it!
Thank you for your continued support!
Christine Douthart
