News and Updates from FSMA
Are you signed up for a conference?
Parent/teacher conferences are next Wednesday and Thursday. FSMA uses conferences as a reporting time so it is essential that all families schedule a time to meet with their child's teacher. We think of it as a verbal report card, and communicating about each child's progress and goals is very important to us.
If you have specific questions about your child or are curious about certain curriculum areas, be sure to email the teacher ahead of time. That way they can make sure to have the data and work samples ready to answer your questions. And, be sure to share with your child's teacher the changes you have seen with your child at home (teachers love to hear how their work in school is carrying over).
We look forward to seeing everyone in the building next week!
Our younger students have been exploring the concept of printmaking with Shivaun this month. They have learned how Johanness Gutenberg invented the printing press and discussed how this changed the world. Children have been using a variety of materials (hands, legos, etc.) to "print." Discovering the unique qualities of printmaking has been fun for the children in art class, and you may see some examples of their work on display at the Wilmington Library in April.
2/3rd graders learned about dynamics in music, with a specific focus on volume. In one music class, the children used their voice to demonstrate volume, used their bodies to create sounds, pretended to be conductors leading others in sound changes, chanted songs with a variety of volume levels and worked in small groups to match the symbol, word, and definition of different things related to volume. Agnieszka fills each music lesson with multiple ways for children to develop an understanding of the concept she is teaching (plus, she makes it fun!).

Are you curious how FSMA is approaching the upcoming State test or what it will mean for our students? If yes, please come out on Tuesday for an informal "coffee and conversation" where Courtney and Liz will talk about FSMA's plans regarding the Smarter Balanced Assessment. We will bring the coffee, you bring your questions!
