TEACHING AND LEARNING UPDATES
WEA Mondays- No Meetings Past 3:30 pm
In order for us to schedule after school programming Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 pm, WEA agreed to move their rep meetings to Mondays. In return, we assured WEA we would not hold meetings after 3:30 pm on those Mondays.
It has come to our attention that several buildings have held meetings on WEA Meeting Mondays, thus causing conflict with attendance at the WEA rep meetings.
Please do not schedule any meetings on the following WEA Meeting Mondays (marked in blue on the Master Calendar) when WEA rep meetings are scheduled:
- December 8
- January 12
- February 9
- March 9
- April 13
- May 11
THANK YOU!
Substitutes for ELL Staff
"YES - You Can Use Your Textbook"
A major misconception is floating around the district...staff can not use their "old" math textbooks as a resource for the new Common Core Curriculum. This is false!!! Much of math has not changed, therefore the materials we used previously to teach that math hasn't changed.
Don Mrozik did a quick look at two of our newly designed units at the third grade level and found that almost 85% of the topics were the same. In this case it is very appropriate to use the text to teach the targets and use other materials to supplement where needed. Don said it took about 30 minutes per unit to cross topics/targets. A small investment for having so many resources right at his fingertips.
Message...
- "Pull them out, dust them off and put them to use when appropriate!"
Gifted Nominations
- The Gifted nomination period will begin January 5th and end January 30th.
- Nomination forms will be available online on the District website.

- Both parents and teachers can nominate students.
