WHS Spring Sports Are In Action

Message from the Principal
Dear Woodside HS Community:
March is a very full and exciting month! PLEASE take some time to read through this newsletter for all the events we have planned, and make sure to join us this Thursday, March 16th for Open House! Classroom Visits will run from 6:30PM--8:00PM, but join us as early as 5:30PM on the Quad to visit with friends and neighbors where we will have a variety of food items for sale. Our ELAC (English Language Advisory Council) parent group is serving up homemade tamales and all the proceeds will go toward the Woodside HS Foundation! The ELAC Parents are very appreciative of the Foundation's efforts in supporting Smaller Class Sizes to College Preparation Workshops to Enrichment Field Trips and College Tours and they hope to collect a handsome amount to donate to the WHS Foundation. I love how our parent groups support each other! In addition, our fabulous Culinary Arts chefs will be serving up Fried Rice straight from our professional kitchen. We will also have two food trucks owned by our parents / local community members and supporters of WHS here to feed to crowd. The weather outlook calls for clear skies, so make it an event and come out to meet the staff and learn about what your students are currently working on!
We lost a very dear community member. Longtime Woodside HS Girls' Soccer Coach, Josè Navarette, passed away on March 1st from health complications. Coach Navarette started his coaching here at WHS in 2000 and leaves a winning legacy of developing a well-respected soccer program, inspiring our female athletes to be fierce leaders on the field and in the classroom. He also supported all our athletics programs, often found in the stands cheering on his fellow coaches and all student-athletes. If you walk through the Admin Office, pause to catch a glimpse of Coach Navarette among the wall of Legacy Coaches of Woodside. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, April 8th starting at 10:00AM in the PAC.
For Future Planning: Minimum Days
- Friday, March 17th (the day following our annual Open House evening March 16th)
Save the Dates: Wednesdays in March
Our College and Career Counseling Center will be hosting five March Into College Information Sessions for Juniors and their Parents every Wednesday in March - see calendar below. We have partnered with ObiCoach to help Juniors develop a "College List" and we will offer College Essay / Personal Statement Workshops later this spring semester and several summer sessions. THANK YOU to our Foundation and generous community / family donors in expanding our College and Career Readiness offerings to ALL our students!

Cinderella - Enchanted Edition:
Get your CINDERELLA - ENCHANTED EDITION tickets today!
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, this romantic fairy tale still warms the hearts of children and adults alike. This Enchanted Edition is inspired by the 1997 teleplay.

Tutorial + PAPER + the DEN + Quiet Study = Academic Success
Second semester is the ideal time for our students to make a new year's resolution and take advantage of the many ways to stay on top of their academics and their learning. Are you:
- Using Tutorials fully and effectively?
- Using the DEN after school to receive tutoring from teachers (MUR with snacks!)
- Using Quiet Study in the Library to get work finished?
- Using the on-line FREE Paper tutoring service?
- Using CANVAS effectively, planning and managing your time?
- Using the College and Career Counseling Center for questions about college applications, scholarships and all things college-related?
- Using the Mental Health resources available for all students in F14?
- Using the bilingual resources available to you from Mr. Stewart or Mrs. Lopez?
If you answered NO to any of the above, it's time for you to take some proactive actions to make positive changes to help yourself. If you don't know where to start, stop by your school counselor or administrator or ask any one of your teachers to get help.
Tutorial During the School Day
Students have a chance to start homework and ask for help within the school day
Students can make up work from absences without using brunch/lunch
Access to all of a student’s teachers in one given time period-- all teachers are in their rooms.
Do the things that might normally interrupt class time like surveys, counselor meetings, school-wide activities, etc.
