Weekly Update
Holy Cross Academy: Middle School Edition
Week in Review
We had a great week! Our All Academy Mass and 10 year celebration on Wednesday was a success! It was amazing to see students from all grades praying and playing together. It was especially great that our students were able to see their past, current, and future teachers and admin together! The middle school students were true leaders that day and we admire their ability to step up and help the littles to get around and play new games!
Thank you to the families who came last night to Back to School Night! I enjoyed seeing our school and family community together and sharing a little bit about our day-to-day experiences and our shared mission to collaborate collectively to help our students to grow into the awesome humans that we know they can and will be thanks to God, loving parents, and a supportive school environment!
For those of you who could not attend, we understand!! Life happens! Attached to this email are some handouts that I shared.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bickel

Testing Week Continued
Thank you for helping next week by helping your children to stay hydrated, get good rest, and to not panic about the testing! Test data is just that - data! Also, with the "Covid-Gap," test data is in a re-building/base-line data collecting state (of sorts). Please remind students that these tests do not define their cognitive abilities or future academic success! Students perform better when we can find ways to eliminate test-taking anxiety! Good news is there is no prep work for this test other than showing up and doing the best that they can! That is all :)
I have provided each homeroom with extra-pencils, mints, and scratch paper. Students can bring in a school-friendly snack for our breaks as well as their own mints or cough drops (if they want...we are providing some though!). We are not allowing books in the testing room for after testing to avoid student rushing through testing to read a book. They will have scratch paper to doodle.
Afternoon classes will resume as normal.
Reminder for students to bring:
1. Pencils
2. Calculator (we have some as well)
3. Positivity
Nothing says you’re really back at school like Standardized Testing Week :)

Happy Weekend!
I am attaching a few articles as resources for any parent interested! I am a fan of researching the mind and emotions of our children to find new ways to think about parenting to continue to grow with my child. I remind my own kids often that I am just as new at parenting as they are at [insert grade level].
We are all a work in progress, but with God, prayer, patience, and research, we will get there!
Have a blessed and happy weekend!!
