September 1, 2021
Dear Quail Run Families,
We welcome a change in seasons and some cooler weather in October! Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held this month. You will be receiving an email from me on October 11th with a list of links to all teachers’ Sign-up Genius schedules. Parents will be given the option of attending conferences in-person or virtually via Google Meet. Please indicate your preference in the comments section on the sign-up genius. This way, you can schedule all your children’s conferences on the same day or schedule with regular classroom teachers as well as gifted, learning center, or special areas as needed. Conferences will be scheduled for the week of October 25th. Our late night of conferences will be Tuesday, October 26th, when we will be on campus until 8:00 pm. Wednesday and Thursday, October 27th and 28th will be early release days. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 pm on those days. Friday, October 29th will be a K-8 recess.
Please be sure to schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher this month. This is your opportunity to conference with teachers and learn more about your child’s academic and social progress. Please click on the link to review a brief article on tips for preparing for an effective conference.
As many of you know, Halloween is one of our favorite holidays here at Quail Run! We are happy to announce we will be allowing students to wear their costumes to school on Thursday, October 28th. In an effort to keep or COVID numbers down and avoid the need to contact trace, we will not be having our yearly parade but we will be planning fun activities for students on that half-day. As you plan costumes for students, please remember because we believe toy guns and other paraphernalia that encourage violence are inappropriate for children in school, children may not bring these items with them. Be sure that your child’s costume allows him/her to have clear vision (no costume masks may be worn), and is safe to be worn at school. For safety reasons, costumes that need to be blown up with an air pump may NOT be worn at school. Also, costumes that reflect any political themes/ideas may NOT be worn at school either.
Your Partner in Education,
Marta Maynard

Kinder Exploration with Loose Parts
Mrs. Ceklic's class discovered loose parts in the library and turned them into: a rainbow, gem castles, bridges, pencil boxes, large and small dogs, monster houses, UFOs, and airplanes.
We used our descriptive and expressive language to tell the stories of our particular loose part and met every language and literacy standard for kindergarten!
What's on 4th Grade's Plate?
Mrs. Lehner's Lions showing off their MyPlate collages, a fourth-grade project for their Who We Are IB unit. Students explored taking care of our bodies by identifying examples of each food group. They were challenged to help cook a balanced meal at home and then extended their knowledge of nutrition as they transitioned to their How the World Works unit on energy.
Pictured is also Ms. Melanie, one of our PVCC volunteers. Ms. Melanie would like to be an elementary art teacher when she graduates and has been spending time assisting Mrs. Lehner and Mrs. Glenn and has been a fantastic addition to the class.
Our 5th Graders have the whole world in their hands!
Here are some of them displaying their world maps which include all the continents, oceans, equator, prime meridian, and Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn labeled.
Students in the picture are: Jimi G., Olivia R., Hailee B., and KJ W.
ESSER Grant Survey
Paradise Valley Unified School District is seeking input from our community on our spending plan for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III) as provided by the American Rescue Plan. This one-time grant is provided to all schools throughout the country to respond and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on students and communities. Funding from this grant will help PVSchools provide the necessary support and services to our students and families to ensure that they not only recover but thrive during the next few years.
In the following survey, you will find several areas in which we are exploring funding opportunities and we need your input into how we should prioritize our spending. Please take time to review each potential answer and provide the feedback you believe we require to understand the needs of our community. Limit one response per individual. Thank you for your participation.

IB Parent Corner
This month, we would like to share an article for our parents titled, "The states of knowing and not knowing and the really interesting bits in between." It provides a suggestion of what you can do when your child is being creative and curious. At Quail Run, we refer to this and being an "Inquirer." We encourage all our families to have conversations with their children about what they wonder about and how things work. They can explore these wonderings with your support in many different ways - it can be as simple as watching a video about something, having a conversation, or go all out by experimenting and getting creative. The world is at their fingertips - and we want to encourage them to ask questions. Check it out!

School Reminders
If you need to relay a message to your student during school hours, you can call the office or leave a message directly on our Voicelink account at (602) 449-5465. The office staff will NOT transfer calls to classrooms, as this will interrupt important instructional time.
If your child forgets their lunch, you may bring it to the front office before 10:00 am. After that time, your child will be given a school lunch. School lunches are free for the duration of this school year.
Be sure to communicate end of day arrangements with your student in the morning, prior to coming to school. We want to ensure all students get home safely. If there are any changes in how students get home, please notify the office and the teacher.
School hours are from 8:45 am -3:15 pm. If you are picking up a student early, please be aware that every minute counts and minutes missed accumulate throughout the school year. Also, be aware that students cannot be called to the office early for an appointment. Students will be called from class at the time you arrive to check them out.
You will need your ID every time you pick up students prior to dismissal.
Your student will not be released if the person picking her/him up is not on the contact list. If you need to add a friend or family member to the contact list you will need to go to Infinite Campus to update Emergency Contact information through your annual update.
You can check your child's grades by downloading the Infinite Campus app or logging on online. Click here for directions.
