Ms. Forte-Doyle & the Creative Class take a trip to the Museum of Art in Dennis
The Creative Writing class and some members of Sandscript, our creative writing club, visited the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis this week to write in response to art. After an hour of writing a variety of pieces in the museum (where we could not photograph) and in the sculpture garden, the students had a picnic lunch on the museum's front lawn. The photos show students in the class during lunch and three Sandscript members during our time of reflection and pre-writing. MANY THANKS to the Women's Club of Chatham for supporting the class and the club with their generous grant to make our trip possible. The students' writing and permitted photos of the artwork they wrote about will be on display soon here at MRHS.
The first ever MRHS Spanish exchange experience at MRHS
The first ever MRHS Spanish exchange experience went better than we could have ever imagined. After MRHS hosted our Spanish friends in November 2016, 16 MRHS students and 2 teachers (Ms. Chizek and Ms. Hoff) traveled to Spain April 14-29, 2017 to explore Madrid, and live with host families in Vigo, Spain. We experienced: navigating through international airports, churros y chocolate, tapas, the Palacio Real, the Prado Art Museum, the Retiro Park, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas and its museum, school life in Vigo, Spanish cafés, the Galician museums of Quiñones de León and Museo Etnográfico Liste in Vigo, playing a game called Rugbaseball (a mix of rugby and baseball) that was invented by one of the teachers at the school we attended (Colgio Miralba), a tour of Vigo's town hall and their police station, Santiago de Compostela, the oldest parts of the town of Vigo, the maritime museum in Vigo, the Cangas fishing community, a professional soccer game, hot springs, and more. Students practiced skills from every academic subject while abroad, and had an experience of a lifetime. Thank you to the MRSD community, area businesses, and local organizations for support throughout this entire experience.
Please check out our photos here.
A very special thank you to Ms. Hoff & Ms. Chizek for organizing this major event, not found in most high schools. This authentic learning opportunity is truly magical and our students are fortunate to have had this powerful experience!

Having the opportunity to sit in on a part of the interview process for a new hire at the HS, I could not help but share how impressed I was with junior; Tommy Graham, who also sat in the meeting. Tommy's articulate prepared questions, impressive organizational-note-taking, and logical conclusions were valued contributions to the group. Tommy was clearly invested in the process, and his viewpoint and understanding of the process were beautifully portrayed/ notably so when he tied in our school theme to the proceedings (You Are Important). I valued his words sharing his impression of each candidate; with poise, empathy, and professionalism. Tommy also seized the opportunity to add some levity, contributing positively to the climate of the meeting. Thanks Tommy for a job well done. What an asset you are to the Monomoy team!
Ms. Ferro
I wanted to give a shout out to the staff in my room and Mrs Fratus' room. The end of the year can be hectic and stressful and I just wanted to commend all of them for the grace and kindness. They maintain structure and a safe educational environment for all students in our program.
