Learning Beyond Borders!

Mrs. Mitchell's 4th grade students participated in an Interactive Field Study with Civil Engineer, Mr. Thronton. He is the General Manager of a Water Treatment Facility in San Diego, California. Students had a Q & A session with Mr. Thornton and were taken on a tour of his facility. Thanks Mrs. Mitchell for going above and beyond to ensure our students learn at high levels every day!

- A special Thanks goes to all Teaching Assistants for your flexibility and willingness to help out this week. You are appreciated. Thank you for being TEAM players!

- Congratulations to Mrs. Nikita Porter for being selected as Killian's Teacher of the Week!

Points to Remember

Playground Supervision- If students are playing basketball or football, please make sure an adult is present on the court or field. There have been multiple incidents of students getting too aggressive and intense during basketball or football. The aggression and tension is causing students to fight one another. Also, ensure that the rest of the playground and students are constantly being supervised through active supervision. This means all adults are spread out in order to observe all students. Please include in your sub plans this information so that subs will know to spread out, circulate, and monitor all students at all times.

Classroom Meetings- Please address fighting during your meetings this coming week. There are other ways to solve conflict. Please stress to students that if they get into a fight with another student, they will be suspended.

Killian Family Game Night- Please remember that Thursday, November 12 will be our first Killian Family Game Night. We want to provide an opportunity for our families to come out and enjoy food, fun, and quality time together! A staff sign up has been shared. Please consider signing up for a time to help out with this activity. We can not do it without you!

Techie of the Week

Mrs. Porter’s Techie of the Week goes to Jarette Pendergrass. At our digital playground, Mr. Pendergrass created a google for for his students as a formative assessment to be used the following day. He added flubaroo to it to grade the assessment and set it up to send the grades to his students via email. How’s that for immediate feedback using Google Apps for Education! Mr. Pendergrass collaborated with his team this week creating a blended unit for Social Studies this week as well where he picked a few time saving tech strategies that he was very excited about.

PTO Meeting Expectations- Oct. 12

Monday, October 12 is our PTO general meeting which will be from 6:00-6:30. Afterwards, parents will come to classrooms for a "Parents as Partners" session from 6:35-7:15. Teachers should plan information sessions regarding curriculum (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies). These sessions should give parents ideas on how they can help their child at home. Each teacher will host their parents in their own room.

Thanks in advance for your preparation for this activity.
