Monterey Bay CUE is calling for film submissions for the 2nd Annual Student Powered Film Festival! The festival is a film competition opened to K-12 students in the counties of Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz. The culminating event (“The Big Show”) will take place at the Maya Cinemas in downtown Salinas, California on April 23, 2019. Doors will open at 5:15 pm The festival’s theme is Earth Day & Conservation and we ask that all submissions broadly follow this theme. Films in Spanish (with subtitles) are highly encouraged!
The goals of the festival are:
To provide students with a creative outlet in which they can express themselves and give themselves a voice,
Educate teachers on ways to authentically implement technology in the classroom - specifically, integrating the digital arts,
To promote and reinforce conservation
Competition Bands & Film Length
Grades K-5: 3 minutes maximum
Grades 6-8: 4 minutes maximum
Grades 9-12: 5 minutes maximum

DigCitSummit California - Call for Presenters
Are you passionate about #digcit? #MBCUE is calling educators, students, and parents for our first @digcitsummit on May 18.
Want to know more about the sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes in length. We are looking for sessions of all kinds from panels to interactive workshops. We are also looking for 15-minute student presentations and 3-minute mini-TED talks, aka, DigCit CUE Booms. Student presentations could be a how-to tutorial on a social media tool or a story about making an impact. For educators, you could do a presentation on how you teach digital citizenship, but you could also talk about how you get your kids to create or solve problems using technology. We are even looking for sessions for families. If you are a parent, we would love to hear how you navigate the digital world with your children! Deadlines and Notification
Deadline for guaranteed review is 11:59pm Pacific Time on February 28th, 2018. Presentations submitted after this date will be reviewed on an as-needed basis.
Presentations submitted by 11:59pm Pacific Time on February 28th will be notified of their acceptance or denial by March 17th. Presentations submitted after that date will be notified on a rolling basis.

DigCit Summit California - Super Early bird Ends 2/28
Join us on May 18th at North Salinas High School for Monterey Bay CUE’s first Digital Citizenship Summit (DigCit Summit)!
The summit is an event to promote and learn more about positive and productive Digital Citizenship. It aims to work towards solutions, promoting best practices, and empowering to be the digital change. This event will bring students, TK-12 educators, and parents together to learn from one another about how to best interact with all things digital from social media to informational literacy. Join us on the information highway and digital playground to create, learn, and grow with us!

Call to Action for #MBCUE committees!
Besides being on the board, we also have some wonderful opportunities to still make a difference in our region. We are currently looking for volunteers to serve on our Student Powered Earth Day Film Festival sub-committee, as well as the sub-committee for our upcoming conference on Digital Citizenship. February 7, 2019
A meeting of the Board of Directors (“the “Board”) of Monterey Bay CUE, a non-profit organization (the “Organization”), was held on February 7, 2019 (Pacific Standard Time) on Google Hangout.

Events
Student Powered Film Festival
Research indicated single event liability insurance is currently more cost-effective. Discussion and decision made to set event prizes into 3 tiers with a total allocation of $750. Website information has been updated and all links checked.
The committee’s next steps continue seeking sponsors and putting out the word.
DigCit Summit
Event set for North High. As of this meeting, there were five presentations submitted. Potential sponsors are being contacted. List of invitees is being built by committee and Board. Next steps are: finishing marketing promo, pushing registrants & attendees; making certain materials are translated into Spanish.
Communications
Next edition of the newsletter needs to be prepared. Website additions and updates. Continuation of Tweeting campaign for upcoming events.
Presidents report:
Spring CUE Board Attendees and annual meet-up details. Affiliate media items needed for CUE. Potential involvement with the revitalization of the Leadership Learning Network in our area; more details to come.
Treasures report
Reported on current encumbered expenses and last years affiliate income. Comerica paperwork has been signed and will be turned in Saturday 2/16. Official Board approval of $250 for individual event policy insurance. The current actual balance is $6,047.99.
Next Board meeting scheduled for Feb 27, 20182019, at Harden MS.
