Principal's Message
Spring is here and before we know it, summer will arrive. I can hardly believe we only have 36 school days left! Recently our Superintendent announced that we would remain in distance learning for this school year and focus on the return to school for the fall.
Our Spring Book Fair begins on April 19th. This is a fundraiser for our school library and books will be shipped directly to your house. Please see the information below for more details. If 75 books are purchased, Mr. Jun will be cutting and donating his hair! I know we can do it!
Thank you to the families who have already completed the proof of residency in their Infinite Campus Portal. However, we still have many families that have not proven residency for next year. Please do not lose your spot and get this done immediately. If you need any help, contact the front office for assistance.
Staff appreciation week is May 3rd-7th. Please join me in thanking our staff for all they do.
I also wanted to thank Ms. Sylvia So-Yi Wong (Sylvia Wong Real Estate) for donating $500 to PTA Innovate Grants. This helped PTA fund three classroom grants. Thank you PTA and Ms. Wong for supporting our classrooms.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Ms. Johnson

Congratulations to the following recipients:
Jamie Phillips: The various hands-on supplies are used as STEM kits that benefit students from hands-on, scientific learning. Students will learn about spatial awareness, resilience, and explore the concept of trial and error. They will also be challenged to think critically, deeply, and creatively to complete their projects.
Alicia Norling: Her students will learn about science concepts with a hands-on approach as they build various rockets. Students will hypothesize, experiment, collect data and analyze forces and motion with a straw rocket and an easily made launcher. These kits provide students with crucial hands-on experiences to understand the science concepts being explored.
Harriet Matsuoka: The Digging for Dinosaurs kits enable students to "become" paleontologists as they go through the process of hypothesizing, digging for dinosaur bones, making observations, and gathering information to figure out what kind of dinosaur they have "found." Students will then do some research on the particular type of dinosaur and share their findings as an expert.
Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE)- 4th and 5th Grade
The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.
State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher by Friday, May 14th.
Many schools teach this curriculum in the spring. Our current distance learning format requires us to be selective about what can be taught safely and effectively outside a classroom, so we will be teaching a subset of the lessons at most grade levels using online and independent activities. Students whose families prefer to opt them out of the lessons will not participate in the activities based on these lessons. Links to the curriculum, opt-out information, and parent resources, can be found at: https://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/HealthResources.

PTA News
** PTA Membership Drive Closed
PTA Membership Drive for the school year of 2020-21 is closed on March 31st. Thanks for your continuous support despite the pandemic. We have got 138 members.
Please help us wrap up by completing the following two tasks:
1. We need to sort the data for Membership Awards by classrooms, as the info is missing in Totem. Please fill out this form by 4/30 for each PTA member in your family, and specify the classroom to assign the headcount: https://forms.gle/2jsjhAzTjcg8CvmM9.
2. If you have made a donation to PTA, please contact your HR to see if your company offers donation match. Please contact harveygreenpta@gmail.com if you need help setting up donation matches.
** PTA Mars Family Nights Updates
Thank you very much for registering to join the Mars Family Night. In order to fully utilize our Zoom capacity, we have decided to:
1. Extend the Priority Registrations + Book Orders for current students, until 8pm on Monday 4/19. Please note that Priority Registrations will allow you to enter the raffles, get a free signed print of “Mars Astronaut” and order books signed by Dr Lee. Please refer to 4/14 school email for links.
2. We offer a new link for LATE Signups at tinyurl.com/MarsTalkExtra, to current/former Green students starting 4/20 until 4/22. Please note that late signups can join the meeting and ask questions, but are NOT eligible for raffles/prints/books.
Counselor's Corner with Ms. Huang
Hello Green Families,
Hope you all had a restful break and Happy Spring! It's been a year of virtual learning and it's safe to say some of us are tired of being home all the time...or maybe you've gotten comfortable with this new routine. I'd say my mind switches between the two quite frequently. I'd like to share a few ideas (might not be new, but still fun!) for you and your family to try. Cooking is an interactive one; here's some easy recipes for kids! Also can't go wrong with scavenger hunts...check out this Outdoor Scavenger Hunt and an Indoor Scavenger Hunt that you can easily turn into a bingo game as well. While tending to your kids' needs, make sure you're also caring for your own. It's okay to do something for yourself once in a while. If you're feeling low-energy or burnt out, that could be your mind/body telling you it's time to practice some self-care!
Warmly,
Ms. Huang
