Winter Greetings

I want to take this time to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

This is the time of year where people around the globe are trying to decide their goals for the new year and how they will accomplish these goals. Now is a great time to think about setting SMART goals with your students, children and family members. SMART goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely. When we take the time to reflect on how we’d like our families and students to grow, we invest in our success. It's highly likely that if we don’t take the time to develop goals we won’t take the steps necessary to move closer to them. When we all come together to work toward a common goal, we are more likely to succeed.

Things that Happen During the Winter Season

Winter is the darkest, coldest time of year. The trees are bare, reminding us of the stark, bare beauty of things. There is a special stillness in winter. Everything seems dead & frozen, but life is quietly unfolding deep in the darkness. During the late winter you can begin to see the very first signs of spring. The baron trees begin to bud, Grape Hyacinths begin poking up their heads. The ground may still be covered in snow but there’s a freshness in the air and a soft buzzing in the earth.

Every October, schools and organizations across the country observe National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal is to encourage schools, communities and organizations to work together to STOP bullying AND cyberbullying and put an end to hatred and racism. David Paterson School is a place where everyone feels safe and accepted and has a sense of belonging. Bullying will NEVER be tolerated at David Paterson. Our teachers, faculty members, students and parents will work in collaboration to prevent ALL forms of bullying. All month long we will be sharing how you can Be a Leader, Risk Taker and put an END to Bullying and Cyberbullying.
