Key Action 1 - Learning Mobility Of Individuals
Modern Art and the Bauhaus in Weimar
Experience Bauhaus with all our senses – this claim had been already faced by the Bauhaus protagonists in the twenties of the past century. Our workshop makes you experiencing the “world of Bauhaus”. You will discover methods to get individual access to the materials and forms of this style which is an avant-garde in architecture and arts up to date.
The workshop targets to teachers intending to use modern art style and architecture for cross-subject purposes. The participants will visit the most important sites in and around Weimar and discuss with experts to dip into the real life of Bauhaus University.Daily programme
- introduction of and discussion about colours
- a city rally through Weimar – practical science of colours – smelling, tasting and feeling colours
- visiting Goethe’s residential house and garden
- introduction of the main aspects of the Bauhaus concept
- a visit and a guided tour through the “Haus am Horn” and the housing estate
- The “Haus am Horn” is an experimental house for implementing the Bauhaus concept in residential building.

Day 3
- Bauhaus – Design – self-study in groups of a Bauhaus topic and presentations of the results
- a visit of the concentration camp Buchenwald – information and discussion about the influence of the National Socialism on the Bauhaus
- discussions and reflections
- being a Bauhaus student: experimenting with different materials and creation of a hand lantern
- visit of the Bauhaus museum
- city tour with the hand lanterns
- Bauhaus international: – collecting examples for the Bauhaus concept in the countries of the participants
- the international impact of Bauhaus
- excursion to Erfurt:– on the marks of old Bauhäusler
- city tour – watching recognizing and comparing architectural features
- guided tour through the Bauhaus University of Weimar to experience the current Bauhaus and get known to students and discuss with them about the Bauhaus concept

Where?
The workshop is going to be carried out in Weimar. This is a very beautiful city in the middle of Germany. The famous German poet, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, spent the most of his live time here.
You can reach Weimar via the Airports
- Leipzig (1 hour train distance)
- Berlin (2,5 hours train distance) and
- Frankfurt (3 hours train distance).
How to participate?
If you are interested in participating on one of our workshops you need a sending organisation and have to contact an organisation in your country that possibly applied for Key Action 1 Mobilities or intends to do so. But you can also contact us, and we will help you to find a sending organization in your country.

We are experienced in networking through working as a partner in several European partnerships and in European networks for the improvement of preschool education and for rural development and the support of low-skilled people.
We are experienced in the organisation and realisation of Grundtvig workshops.
