Principal's Message
Dear Parkview Families,
Thank you for an amazing year. We are so proud of all of our students and the progress they have made. Their effort has been outstanding! This year we have also enjoyed our new building. Having extra space has definitely allowed us to expand curricular activities, afterschool programs and evening events. We are also excited about the growth of our Spanish Dual Language Immersion program that will be K-4th grade in the fall of 2019. Our students are moving closer to bi-literacy as we have provided more opportunities to read, write and speak in two languages.
Special thanks to all of you who have contributed to the success of our school year. Success would not be possible without the support of time and talent from our parents and community volunteers. I’d like to thank Kim Marconi, our PTA president, and our PTA board members for their commitment to providing so many wonderful activities for students and families. Many of the PTA board members had given years of service to all children at Parkview. They have our heartfelt thanks. In the fall of 2019, we will welcome a new PTA president, Cassie Miller and an entire new board. They will need your help. Please show your support and consider joining the PTA next year. When all parents are involved with the PTA, it creates a powerful community for children. Let’s team together in 2019-2020. Consider how you might be able to help.
Summer is a great time to continue learning, visit the library, start a hobby, or read a good book. Please make it a priority to work with your child this summer: read to them, have them count the change in the change jar, help them to make choices and order when you are out to eat, encourage good social skills with eye contact and slow and clear speech. Last summer, we noticed a decrease in student’s academic skills over the summer. We are hoping that this summer, we can partner with you to encourage reading over the next few months. Parkview teachers have provided the children with some resources for you. I would strongly encourage everyone to visit the Valparaiso Public Library. They have a wonderful summer program with many incentives for children. The Parkview website also has a link to Clever where the children can connect with thousands of digital books and math games.
For students in grades 3-5, the Spring 2019 ILEARN results are scheduled to be available on August 15. Summer IREAD3 results will be available on June 10. As soon as we have results, we will share them with you.
Report cards will be available on June 7 in Skyward. It is a good idea to share your child’s report card with them and celebrate their growth and outstanding effort together.
The Parkview office will close on June 14, 2019 for the summer and reopen on July 22. Regular office hours are 8 am to 3:30 pm during the summer. It is important that everyone participate in the Residency Verification taking place June 3-13. Everyone will need to verify residency before they will be cleared for registration. As a reminder, registration will open for returning families on July 23. We are also planning a “Meet Your Teacher Ice Cream Social” on August 7, 2019 from 6-7 PM. The first day of school is August 12, 2019.
Once again, thank you for an outstanding year. Please know how much we appreciate you and your children. It has been a pleasure partnering with you. We hope you and your family have an enjoyable and safe summer.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wodetzki

New School Year…New PTA Board…New Memories To Be Made
Dear Parkview Families,
Parkview’s new PTA board wishes you a HAPPY SUMMER BREAK! My name is Cassie Miller and I am very excited to serve as the 2019-2020 Parkview PTA President. Currently, I work as the 5th Grade Instructional Aide and I will have 2 of my 3 children enrolled at Parkview in the fall (I am also a Parkview graduate many years ago:). We have an entirely brand new PTA board and we are thrilled to put ideas into action but WE NEED YOUR HELP.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT is vital to the success of the PTA and as President, my goal is to double the amount of parent volunteers this fall. We encourage all parents and guardians to volunteer in some capacity this year and to attend our monthly meetings (dates and times TBD) to provide your child(ren) the best possible elementary experience.
Top 3 Reasons to Join the PTA:
- It is good for your child – Children with parents engaged and actively involved with school make better grades and have fewer disciplinary problems at school.
- Networking - PTA events provide an opportunity to meet other Parkview families, teachers and your children’s friends and classmates.
- You become a role model – Showing your child that you value education and can make a positive impact to their school and community.
We can’t wait to meet you at our first event, Back to School Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 7th from 6-7 pm at Parkview. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your student’s teacher(s) and socialize with new and familiar faces. If you are interested in making this event super awesome for you child, please email cassiemiller@valpo.k12.in.us
