Message from our Principal
Dear Families,
I hope everyone had a relaxing Spring Break! I will speak for myself when I say it was much needed for everyone, especially as we approach the end of the school year. This week we have been focusing on our routines and procedures schoolwide as we get back into learning. We are excited about the opportunity to have volunteers in our building soon.
In addition, we have some dates quickly approaching that you should be aware of. State SBA testing will occur during the week of May 17th to May 26th for our 3rd-5th grade students; with makeups from May 31st - June 2nd. Washington state students take state and federal tests regularly to assess their learning as well as the progress of the educational system as a whole. The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) is a system of assessments aligned to Washington state standards in English language arts/literacy (ELA/literacy) and mathematics for grades 3-8 and high school.
SBA tests are done online and they are not timed. Students will be given appropriate time to answer all questions. There are two main components to the SBA:
Computer Adaptive Test: Adaptive tests taken on a computer adjust to a student’s ability by basing the difficulty of future questions on previous answers. An adaptive test gives a more precise estimate of a student’s ability than a paper/pencil test. This type of test gives an accurate measure of a student’s current performance on the Washington state standards and is a reasonable testing experience for students.
Performance Task: A Performance Task challenges students to apply their knowledge and skills in response to a real-world problem. The task is a collection of questions and activities that connect to a single theme. This task is designed to measure a student’s depth of understanding, ability to answer difficult questions, and the ability to use and cite research in support of an idea.
High school students in 10th grade who receive a 3 or 4 on the Smarter Balanced Assessments are considered “college and career ready.” Please partner with us as we prepare your students with the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in college and/or trade school.
Best,
Hugo

We can’t wait to welcome volunteers back to our campus beginning next week.

1:15-2:15 Monitor our new snack area during our last recesses on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Because Governor Inslee’s Vaccine Mandate continues to be in place and applies to volunteers, unvaccinated adults will unfortunately not be able to be cleared to volunteer at school at this time.
We are excited to have volunteers back in our schools and thank you in advance for your patience as we work through the process of clearing each of you for returning to volunteer at Frank Wagner.
THANK YOU for being a positive presence for our students!
Report a Concern
Safety is always our number one priority. We encourage students, parents/guardians, volunteers and staff to report all safety concerns to any of our staff members or to submit concerns via Safe Schools Alert, our online tip reporting system.
Safe School Alert allows anyone to easily report tips of threats, bullying, harassment, drugs, racism, vandalism or any other safety concern to our administration via phone, text, email or web.
Every concern that is reported in the system immediately notifies our administrators so they can investigate and take appropriate action. Reports may be filed anonymously through this system. The more information we are provided with, however, the easier it is for us to address concerns in a timely manner.
Our Wildcats ROAR
Here at Frank Wagner Elementary our students know what it means when we ask them to ROAR like a Wildcat. For us, to ROAR means to Respect all, Own our own learning, Always show kindness, and Remain safe. For example, ROARing in the hallways means walking not running, because running isn’t safe or respectful of others around us. To ROAR in the classroom means working hard on the task in front of us and respecting those around us by not interfering with their learning. And throughout the day students have multiple opportunities to ROAR by showing each other kindness. Students can ROAR at home as well by respecting each other, owning their behavior, being kind and remaining safe.
THIS IS HOW OUR WILDCATS ROAR
