PES Principal Message
January 12, 2023
Puster Families,
We are excited to share our appreciation for our LISD School Board members during the month of January. Puster staff and students have the privilege and honor of celebrating School Board President, Barrett Owens. Our Board Members spend an extraordinary amount of personal time and energy working to make often very difficult decisions. We are thankful for their selfless service!
Tomorrow, we have some very brave 4th graders participating in our annual Spelling Bee. We are Puster PROUD of every contestant for their courage! 3rd and 4th grade students will have the opportunity to attend the event live while K-2 may observe via live stream in their classrooms.
As a reminder, Monday, 1/16 is a staff and student holiday and there will be no school. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, 1/17.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Puster Proud,
Holly

I am excited to use my knowledge, wisdom and experience to help make it the best it can possibly be for our children. Lovejoy is turning out tomorrow’s leaders and our strategic initiatives and priorities continue to provide an environment of success. Library stats:
1,010 titles circulated the week before break,
21,878 titles have circulated so far for this year!

Kindergarten, first and second grade are learning about the Caldecott Award, and are will be noticing 10 new books that could be in the running for this year's award. We will be doing a K-2 PES mock Caldecott vote, and then seeing the medal and honor winners when they are announced after January 30th. Will we analyze and guess the winners? We shall see! Goals:
1. To gain an awareness of the Caldecott medal and qualities of a good picture book
2. To practice reading for deep meaning and the subtleties of literature
3. To clearly express opinions and ideas with peers
4. To listen to and evaluate the ideas of others
5. To build excitement about authors and new literature.

Attendance Updates
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences.
