Talking to Children about Coronavirus
Your kids probably have lots of questions about what's going on and maybe some fears and anxieties, as well. Here's some info from the CDC about how to talk to kids about the coronavirus that you may find helpful.

Schedule!
Have you settled into somewhat of a schedule? There are lots of sample home-school or distance learning schedules available online. Some might make sense for your family and some might not be at all practical. Please know that we will pick up wherever we need to academically with the kids in 6 weeks! Right now, please pay close attention to their social/emotional state. We highly recommend that you keep to a schedule and stick to as many routines as you can to help the kids feel settled and successful. Do what you can for schoolwork, but don't stress!
Here are a couple schedule ideas that might be helpful in planning your own:

Math
We loved seeing all the math work last week with counting sets to 20! Accurately counting sets of items is important work for the kids all year long. Keep up the great work! This week, have your child spend 10-15 minutes (more if they love it!) a day on IXL section F: Skip Counting. In Kindergarten, we work on mastering skip counting by 5's and 10's to 100 and by 2's to 20 and beyond. We skip count every day as part of our calendar work.
God's Time
Epic Books!
The kids each now have a membership to EPIC books, a fantastic digital library with leveled books for every level. We are playing around with how best to use it, but feel free to poke around and see what you can find.
After launching the epic app,
select "Have an account? Log in" then click "students and educators"
enter class code: gpe5542 (gold class) kdb2416 (green class)
select student's name and you're in!
Language Arts
This week's reading unit is a review. The kids can practice these letters for handwriting and these sight words. There is a list of ways to practice sight words attached to a unit called "sight words" on FB.

AJ
One of AJ's favorite things to do is homework. He is a purple belt in Karate and a black belt trainer. He likes to play basketball and baseball and is very good at both of them. His favorite food is spam and rice. He goes to Panama every other Christmas to be with his mom's family.
Look for more about AJ on our FB page and have your kids ask questions, give compliments and make connections!
