*As always . . . my intent here is not to leave out anyone, so if you know of some great things happening in this building, please send me a text or email so I can include them -- share the greatness that people are choosing to do for our learners and for each other.
Professional Learning Plan -- Links to important Docs & "The Form" . . . and Q&A
Here are the important links you need to access to make decisions about your professional learning plans:
- Professional Learning Plans 2019-20 (Google Doc with information -- hard copy was given to you on Monday, 13 May)
- Professional Learning Plan Checklist 2019-20 (Google Doc that previews the form, including examples and sentence stems for completing the prompts, courtesy Mrs. Vaupel)
- Professional Learning Proposal 2019-20 (The Form -- use this to submit your professional learning plan(s))
Questions of Late . . .
Some teachers have posed some really good questions recently, and I want to share answers, just in case you are wondering the same thing:
Q: What is an LMS?
A: An LMS is a Learning Management System. The examples of Google Classroom, Schoology, and Canvas were offered in the meeting, but these are not your only options. A link was provided on the digital copy of the information you received on Monday, so if you want to peruse the benefits and drawback of the different systems, this is a good resource. Seesaw is another option -- the elementary buildings use this system, nearly on a daily basis, and is great for sharing but not so much for disseminating "assignments" if you are in a group.
Q: Do I have to use an LMS?
A: Yes -- although this may feel like a lot of learning in itself, the systems offered are some of the more easily managed, and this is the easiest way to ensure accountability and credit (if you choose to use the learning aligned with your SMART Goal for relicensure credit).
Q: What if I want to do more than one learning project? (Like a group and an individual or two individual?)
A: Excellent! Complete a proposal for each of your learning endeavors.
Q: What if my learning opportunity is completed before the end of the school year (like I finish in December)?
A: The proposal form is not going to stop accepting responses, so a new proposal can be completed at any time throughout the school year.
Q: Even though I want to do a pre-planned course of learning, can I be in a group for that learning?
A: The pre-planned courses can be an individual choice or a group choice -- when you sign-up in the form, your first question is for "group" or "individual." If you have a partner or a group of people who want to do a pre-planned book study, you are welcome to submit as a group. If you don't have a group, and want to submit as an individual, you can learn on your own. If you choose individual and then change your mind, you can always be added to a group later in the LMS.
Q: How do I know what other people are doing or considering for their learning?
A: Use this Google Sheet: PLP Choices 2019-20 to record your information. If you are a team, use one box per name, but color all the same. You may add a sub-category in parenthesis after your name if you wish to give more clarification. See the examples for Example Course 1 and Example Course 2 on the far right of the sheet.
HABITS of MIND CHALLENGE . . .
Here is my progress on my two goals:
MY GOAL: To share wonderment and awe with at least one teacher for each day that I am able to be in the building. The observable data will be consistently based on teacher practice and highly effective strategies.
Measurement: Tally record by date for teachers with whom I have noted the observable data. Carbon copy or photocopy notes for record.
For the MONTH of . . .
January Goal NOT Met 0/3 weeks
February Goal Met 3/4 weeks
March Goal Met 4/4 weeks
April Goal NOT Met 1/4 weeks
May goal . . .
4/28-5/3 Goal NOT Met (0 notes / 3.5 days)
5/6 - 5/10 Goal MET (6 notes / 2.5 days)
5/13-5/17 Goal NOT Met (1 note / 3.5 days)
MY GOAL: To better prepare questions and think of potential roadblocks ahead of conversations and to actually ask the questions that generate from the discussion.
Measurement: Prepare (in writing) questions and potential roadblocks ahead of conversations. When a question arises in conversation, write the stem and ASK IT. Reflect on the usefulness of preparation questions and problems after each conversation with a + or - for usefulness. During conversation questions will be recorded and tallied.
